I have accepted the fact that Stuart Woods has now decided to write these mini novels featuring Stone Barrington. The fact saddened me and I have to admit I had to grieve a bit before complete acceptance.
With that said , I have to say that I enjoyed this little novels. Stone is always perfect and forever the womanizer. The " kids" are great , in fact, everything is just dandy.( insert sarcasm) unless you count the fact of being hunted by a once dead mobster being great.
Anyway the book is fast paced and great for light reading.
I do long for the days where Mr. Woods really wrote a novel but alas there is always his older books.

I must thank Stuart Woods for proving that karma must truly exist. The dude has to have been quite a saint in his past life and is now taking advantage of that good karma in this one. It's the only explanation I can think of since the guy is a hack writer to the extreme.

Everything about this book is lazy. Woods is not a quality writer in the least. His sentence construction is elementary. The dialogue is wooden and unnatural. The plot requires no fewer than 4-5 howlingly inexplicable coincidences to move forward. Okay, every now and then, a writer finds himself in a place that she has to use one improbable coincidence to get herself out of a jam. But this plot -- such as it is -- requires one every 25-50 pages to generate the plot. Without them, there would've been nowhere for the story to go. That's not only slothful, it's disrespectful to any thinking person.

Finally, the characters themselves are hard to root for. I won't say such people can't exist. But these are the .1% (not 1%, I mean point-one-percent) at their finest. Big decisions the characters wrestle with include: how to find a good butler, which of two jet planes should they take to LA, can a Porsche Cayenne spare tire be found in a timely fashion, and whether Stone Barrington's kids should live in their multi-million dollar bungalow on the studio lot that daddy owns or live in the multi-multi-million dollar mansion on the grounds of the most luxurious hotel in the United States. And of course, these young kids just out of college move to LA and immediately on Day Two are in production on a multi-million dollar studio film which they are producing and directing themselves, because Daddy owns the studio. If there was a 1/2 star I would have given it. I can't understand why Mr. Woods doesn't write 1 really good book a year instead of several poorly written and plotted books. We know he is capable of doing real page turners. I am surprised he has the guts to do book signings. Very sad to see such a good series thrown down the toilet. Only good thing was possible the redemption. Of Teddy Fay.

Woods encourages emails, as long as it doesn't contain anything of substance. So about a year ago I wrote him expressing concerns regarding his style of late. His answer: "read something else."

Thought I'd give it another shot, big mistake. You guys with negative reviews know what I'm talking about.

Have to agree with other reviewers in that novels by Woods have become so unbelievable and improbable that when you get to the end, you have to wonder why you even bothered to read the book. The best thing about this book is the fact that Herbie Fisher was nowhere to be found!

A long time ago, Stuart Woods wrote some really good books. "Chiefs," for instance, a novel set in his home town of Delano, GA. "Blue Water, Green Skipper," an autobiographical travel tale of his solo sail across the Atlantic. He wrote some other fairly decent mysteries, involving Stone Barrington, Holly Barker, and Ed Eagle, and had some fun stirring them all together at different times. Okay so far? Then, well, Mr. Woods got really rich and famous and really lazy. His characters are all rich and sexy and growing older but not wiser, they screw everything without consequence, drink like fish without liver problems and just chat up a storm. Essentially he writes now what I can only term "Adult Hardy Boys" books. If all you are looking for is a sort of humorous romp with everyone flaunting their knowledge of airplanes and Hollywood and finally , oh, by the way, catching the bad guys, he's your author du jour.

In this tale Stone is still plagued by the Russian Mob, and oh, yes, Teddy Faye is there, to liven things up and save the day, using his remarkable skills as a former CIA tech expert. Dino goes with Stone to LA, their respective offspring are their making a film, the mob shows up, Teddy shows up, the standard formula unfolds, and it all works out in the end. No brainer. Mr. Woods carts his royalties off to the bank. My guess, he can probably write one of these in about a month.

Can we talk? Your son and his friends finish college and go off to Hollywood where a wonderful place to live and a great job wait for them. This happens to all kids out of college..right..oh, wait,...some kids go home and live with mom and dad and pray that they can find any kind of job...right! Then the bad guy, Teddy, gets in his plane and flies off to a wonderful place where..in just 24 hours...he gets a job, a place to live, and a woman to sleep with him. Darn it, life doesn't get better than that. Meanwhile, back at home, Stone has a butler, a cook, a secretary and they all live nextdoor. Wow, how convient is that!! Mr. Woods real life is not like your books and It's time for us to read something that we can believe in. So anyone who is reading this, if you like fiction, fiction that is totally unbelieveable...buy this book. You will not be disappointed. Oh, one more thing, watch out for the Russians!
