About the Author

David White is an educator, author, and publisher. His extensive academic background includes two bachelor's degrees-one in history and one in journalism-as well as advanced studies in history and English. The author of several educational books, he is also the author of Ferdinand Magellan and the First Voyage Around the World, a young adult title published in 2002. He was the About.com Guide to Social Studies for Kids and is the publisher of the successful website Social Studies for Kids.

Daniel P. Murphy, Ph.D. is a history professor at Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana, and the author of numerous articles and book reviews. He was a contributing author for The American Presidents. He lives in Louisville, KY.
