Driving your project through resource availability is, when dealing with those who own a project's budget or are responsible for it's deliverables, pointless. The powers that be want hard dates. Resource availability changes are not something they are interested in changing their delivery schedule and/or connected processes or projects for.

That being said, there is a TON of great ideas on how to utilize Dynamic Scheduling to order tasks based on resource availability as opposed to hard dependencies. Some of this type of information has proven to be useful. Still, it goes against what most managers and team members are used to. Implementing this scheduling approach involves as much OCM as it does learning and mastering the approach yourself, as well as the tool.

I just read thru "Dynamic Scheduling 2010" and it is definately a great book to have on your book shelf. The whole concept of dynamic scheduling makes a lot of sense and can make project schedulers much more manageable.

I have been consulting in Project Professional and Project Server for the past seven years and this is one of my recommended books that all project manages should have on their bookshelf.

Cheers!

I am very satisfied with the book Dynamic Scheduling with Microsoft Project 2010. The book has been very important to my career at Caterpillar Financial, because I am always involved with Projects, and the book has been my guide with Project Management principles. The author John White demonstrates a powerful knowledge with PMP concepts. I can tell that I learnt a lot with him! I highly recommend the book!

This book has greatly helped me fill in my MS Project knowledge gaps. It is meant for a professional audience versus an academic audience. I liked that 1) it targets only scheduling, not all MS Project capabilities, 2) it is relevant to my work as a project manager. It is frequently flipped open on my desk and has answered more questions than it has created.

Already a certified Project Management Professional, I selected this book to prepare for the Project 2010 exam. I quickly decided it was not suited to that end. The authors primarily teach project management, and try to tie in specific features of Project 2010 that support the particular PM area being discussed. They do a fairly good job with that, but we have to wade through all of the project management content to get to the software content.

The real drawback is the lack of practice scenarios or sample project files. The appendix cites a web site with files for download, but after registering, I never received the authorization email to get the files. I tried a second time with a different email address to make sure it wasn’t spam blocked, but still received no response.

A solid text if you need to learn to learn project fundamentals, and want to try Microsoft Project as you learn, but not an exam prep or skill-building tool.

Hello,

First than anything I'm Mexican and as you know my native language is Spanish, so my apologies in advance for any mistake.

The book so far so good, I say that because at the moment I'm reading it and I haven't finished, It's a very complete book that can help anybody even if you are not an expert at using Project, it's because it explains in depth detail step by step what you have to do and gives you very important advice in the use of the Software and techniques used by Project Managers.

One think I don't really like is that the book was thought to be read only for Project Managers and actually I'm not a Project Manager but that doesn't mean I'm not able to manage projects as good or even better as a Project manajer would do it, I'm just only an engineer 27 years old guy who wants to learn as much as I can.

By the way, Thanks to Amazon because it was the only mean by which I could get the book.

The book is a great resource for MS Project 2010. One of the authors, John White, is an excellent instructor on the software.
