From the Author

I began playing paintball in 1996, and wrote "501 Paintball Tips, Tricks, and Tactics" from my experiences playing woodsball and speedball, in scenarios and tourneys around the world. As a paintball journalist I publish dozens of technical and tactical articles in trade magazines every year, and thought I'd put my absolute best advice, techniques, and strategies into this book. It reflects more than a decade of research and development, but is written so as not to leave anyone behind--each tip builds on the one before, so that by the end you've gained years of experience for less than the cost of one bag of paint. Enjoy reading, and then playing in a whole new way!

Although some folks may be disappointed by the few black and white pictures in this book, I was extremely pleased with the content of the text. The author has obviously spent plenty of time playing paintball, and thinking about paintball. As a former woods ball player, I picked this book up for my pre-teen nephew, who's just getting into the sport. I was so pleased to find actually useful info about marker maintenance and repair, field tactics, and lots of other good stuff - many of which I had to find out the hard way for myself back in the day. This book makes a great companion to several other books that are geared toward paintball "newbies": Buy this one to go along with any of the latest picture-laden books. There are real "gems" in here!

As a beginning player, this book had absolutely everything I needed, from the basic rules, to how to keep my goggles unfogged, to basic maintenance of my gear. I feel like I can actually get in the game, just knowing simple things like that paintballs travel in lanes, so there are safe places to stand just a foot away from a heavy exchange of paint.

There's also a ton of stuff about boobie trapping, ghillie suits and building bunkers. Dave also answers specific questions through his website (www.501paintballtips.com), which is useful when I don't know the terms to use to look up my question.

What a great resource. It covers woods ball (my favorite scenario games), and speedball equally well, and shows how techniques in one can be applied to the other. Don't judge it by it's lame 70's industrial style cover, because inside is a wealth of great tips and tricks that can transform your individual game, or team game. This is a book that you will read again and again, and apply new strategies from what happened at the field last weekend.
