Want to make your own TV series on the Web? Get in line but don't expect many hits unless you know what you're doing. TV comedy writing vet Ross Brown knows and knows how to teach -- and write. But because nothing changes faster than the Internet, Brown's useful "Byte-sized Television" has been updated for 2014. This is the one you should buy since it has the latest Web TV festivals, more current examples of Web series, and an updated section on marketing. From creating a concept to casting, from writing to shooting to set decoration, this book tells you how to do it, and also serves as a pep talk -- "You're ready! Honest -- So Go Do it!" So go do it.

It seems to me the Internet is today’s Wild West for creative entrepreneurs. It’s also the place one can create today’s equivalent of “The Great American Novel.” Only “novel” has become “webisode.” It’s where you can go and get a shot at what used to be stardom, or as we now call it, going viral. While old TV networks decay and even newer cable channels become more bureaucratic in their dealings with talent -- outsiders, kids, talented newcomers have a place wide open for them to learn to create what we now call “content.” It’s the Internet. And Ross Brown’s do-it-yourself book Create Your Own TV Series for the Internet is the guidebook. It’s a hands-on college course in 245 pages. It covers the creative, the technical and the business aspects of the process. So go to it. Ride out to the Wild West and make your name, with Ross’s great book to show you the path.

Ross Brown has already proven himself as a veteran show runner of classic sit-coms. Now he's here to share his extensive knowledge as TV writer/producer/show runner and professor in this excellent book packed with insights, wisdom, and nuts and bolts information on creating web series. As the TV business rapidly evolves from an insular 5 broadcast network paradigm into a wide open playing field, webisodes are the next frontier of opportunities for writers and producers. This is literally a do-it-yourself book, but Ross Brown guides you through the process every step of the way. I give it an A+ / 5-star review. Buy it. Read it. Cherish it.

Ross Brown's book “Create Your Own TV Series For the Internet” (2nd edition) opened my eyes to one of the almost hidden possibilities that exists for us creative people. Making a television series or web series for the internet. I love making films but I never really contemplated making a TV series. I admit that I don't watch much television so I never really thought about creating television. Television shows are so different from a movie. Shows, as you know, are run in a series with the same characters each week or day. They are formated and often times the story continues from episode to episode. We get to know the characters and they sort of become our friends.

What if you have an idea for a TV show? How do you start creating it? With no connections in Hollywood you are pretty much out of luck but fear not. Ross Brown teaches you how to go about making your show for the internet in his book “Create Your Own TV Series For the Internet”. He covers every step from show concept to distributing it on Youtube and other places on the net. Think of Ross Brown as your Hollywood Insider who wants to help you be successful.

The book walks you through all the necessary steps. You'll brainstorm your show idea, think about the look of the show, create the world your characters live in and of course create the characters. Brown helps you outline the script and get it ready to shoot. I appreciate how he covers the equipment needed to make a great TV show. Many people have great ideas but skip on good production value. He emphasizes the importance of production value and ways to get decent equipment and locations on the cheap or free. Brown also touches of all the phases of producing the show from pre to post production.

This book generates real excitement. Why? A filmmaker can create his or her own work and find an Internet audience. The filmmaker does not have to wait for a “yes” from a producer/network/someone else. On page 23, the author demonstrates why “The Guild” is a great concept for a TV Series for the Internet. This book goes into the nuts and bolts of really making your series take flight: the pilot script (page 72), choosing a visual style (page 91), preproduction (page 109), production (page 125), postproduction (page 136) and building on the pilot (page 157). The author includes interviews with creators in this exciting format. Don’t wait for someone to tell you “yes.” When I first go into the film industry, I wrote, directed and co-produced a feature film that went to the Cannes film market and gained international distribution. If making an Internet series was available at that time, I would have jumped in. Now, I focus on franchises, including my “Jack AngelSword” which includes graphic novels, text novels and feature film screenplays. I’m working with graphic novels because I like art direction and directing my work “on paper.” It’s all about creating an audience. This book about “Your Own TV Series for the Internet” is an essential tool for creating an audience and showing the world what you can do. Get started today.
