This is the first book that I have had the pleasure of reading from this author and I really enjoyed it. The story is between Dr. Neela S, a liberal doctor in a conservative government, and Jordan, a detective with a chip on her shoulder (to put it mildly). Jordan is put on Dr. Neela's protection detail and the chemistry between the two characters is instant and intense that neither one of them knows how to really act. It's a great story and I well worth the read. The interactions between the characters are well developed and the writing style draws you in as a reader. I highly recommend this book and will myself be looking to read other novels written by this author.

The two main characters in this novel are like night and day. The day is Dr. Neela Sahjani, who is the Director of Health working under a new governor with a different agenda than her previous boss. There are strange bills being pushed thru the legislature, which have hidden items, which will turn back the State health care for years. In Neela's spare time, she's working on stem-cell research to help her mother and others. The night is Det. Jordan Bishop. When Jordan's character was revealed all I could say was Billy Idol..."Rebel Yell".

Jordan and her partner are tasked with protecting Neela because threats have been made. The threats become more than just threats and Jordan and Neela are more than just protector and protectee.

I wasn't sure about this book at first but found myself going back to it. Is it one I would revisit--probably not. The sex was erotic and not my thing. I have enjoyed her earlier books and that is why I purchased this one. Seek out some of her earlier titles.

VK Powell brings thirty years of experience in a midsized police department to her police characters in this novel of romantic intrigue. As the book opens, Detective Jordan Bishop and her partner and best friend Detective Rebecca Ward have been assigned, along with two male officers, the job of protecting liberal Doctor Neela Sahjani, the North Carolina State Health Director. Neela lives with her mother, Bima, and works nights with her partner, Liz, doing stem cell research.
Jordan and Neela have instant chemistry, as they work through their differences and the threats on both Neela and her mother's lives.
The relationship which develops between Jordan and Bima is charming, as is the relationship she has with Blue, a collie she rescued. There is definitely plenty of very hot sex, solid friendships and loving relationships, all as a very sinister plot is being solved!
