As a student of the Word, this is the first tool I have come across that gives concise information in which to help further study, understand and teach ancient Bible times to students. Each section is like an introduction to a battle the reader will find in the Bible along with either illustrations or pictures to help any person seeking to understand a different time, place and culture.
Under these headings are tidbits of information: Title of the Battle, where in the Bible it can be found and read, Location, Key Players, and Weapons and Warriors. There is also included Battle Synopsis, Outcome, both long and short term, and God’s Role in the battle. What a treasure trove of information that transports the audience to a totally unique era.
I loved the pictures shown of archeological artifacts found to support what the Word reveals. So much of the book helps remind us that there were real times, people and battles. We even can learn of future battles yet to come and things to think about. People will be able to just sit and absorb what has taken place and contemplate what has yet to be.
At the end of the book, there is an index for those who want to look up a particular person, battle or other subject. One aspect I really loved was seeing how we can understand history from a Biblical perspective and appreciate the way history has been preserved for others to view via stone pictographs and more. Here is a wonderful resource that is sure to bring the Bible to life and enable discussions for people to enjoy over coffee or a tea. I know I will be utilizing this small handbook for many years to come. Remember this is a starting point for study and not a comprehensive book.

We have been using this book to supplement our family Bible study time. Our 10-year old son is very into anything battle related and this has helped him engage more in our family Bible study. We use this book, the Bible and other resources to dig deeper into Biblical content.

As stated by another reviewer, the audience for this book but it isn't someone looking for a scholarly analysis of Biblical Warfare and the particular instances of warfare mentioned in the Bible. It really is only for those that can stomach a literal view of the Bible and the frequent use of the word "evil" to describe people, places, and communities. The book layout, quality of the images and such are okay, but I was very disappointed that the author provided no extra-textual material in order to analyze and evaluate the Bible stories nor was there any evaluation of the text. Basically, this is what a ten year-old does when they write a synopsis.

Not recommended unless you simply want a retelling of the conflict-related Bible stories with a little extra literalist verbiage.

A superior concise resource on the subject. Other books on the topic will overwhelm the general reader. This is more in the form of a comprehensive quick-resource guide--but contains enough detail to be a robust introductory text.
Here, the author lays out more than 90 Biblical battles in 2 to 4-page spreads. For each, he provides the relevant Scriptural references, the general synopsis, key players, weapons, outcome, a map, illustrations, and God's role in each battle.
It is written from an evangelical Christian perspective with a long view of God's interaction with history yet with extra vignettes handling events, moral problems, strategy, and characters in greater detail.
The illustrations are also fitting. My only criticism would be that some of the maps are weak on specific detail & range but perhaps the decision was that there are plenty of Bible atlases that achieve that well. This is meant to be an overview and in that it really really shines.
It has instantly become a staple on my most important Bible reference shelf.
