I knew nothing of horses of showing them, training them, etc. The entire horse world was unknown to me, I see what I was missing when reading this story. It takes you to the behind what the public would see and takes you to the farms where the horses are grown, trained, and then shown. Bought and sold. This is the story of Jeth Cavanaugh who is searching for a new life and takes a wrong turn and ends up at the home of Rob and Katie Chilton who train and show horses, they teach children to ride jumpers, etc. Rob and Katiie are devout christians and even though Jeth has been in prison, they see that he is a horse whisperer they have a horse Dynamo who really can't be managed or rideen by anyone until Jeth comes along. They hire him for room and board and the little money they can scrape up and on Sundays they don't allow Jeth to work, he can go to church with them if he likes. Since he can't work and has not much money he decides to try it out. It's not so bad, he returns. Slowly the word of God makes it's way into Jeth and changes his life. He has a day where he is really tested and that is the day that changes everything for him. Dynamo is a leading character in Jeths life throughout this book as well is the word of God as brought front and center by the author. This book takes hold of you and you can't put it down. It's hard to go about your daily chores when all you can think about is getting back to the story to see how it ends.
This is a telling story, one that stays with you when you aren't reading and has you compelled to finish it and see the story to the end. I loved this book!

I got the book mid-afternoon on 3/19/14 as part of Amazon's first shipment and it was not until about 8PM that I was able to pick it up. I tried several times to put the book down and go to bed but would lay there processing the story line up to that point. Finally about midnight, I got up, knowing that there would be no sleep until I was finished--at 3AM. It has been many years since I have been so gripped by a story and so anxious to see how the author would develop it from there. I tend to be one with many volumes being read at one time; not so with this one.

So an ideal candidate for your favorite chair in your favorite inglenook for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and evening.

. . . or for romance readers with a touch of equestrian blood. I’m not sure which aspect of Dynamo caught me the most: the realistic portrayal of training and showing horses—mostly jumpers, the spiritual awakening of the lead character, Jeth, or the roller coaster ride of a relationship that seemed shattered in the first ten pages. Jeth’s journey from falsely accused ex-con horse trainer to fully mature young man in the Lord makes for dramatic reading. Just when I thought I had the plot figured out, along came another twist in the story. A good read with a powerful message about love, forgiveness, and dependence on God’s grace.

Well written tale by an experienced writer, experience with writing, with horses, and with life! The story is engaging, flowingly told, with characters that are gripping in their experiences and how they handle life. A worthy addition to Ellie Gustafson's growing body of literature!

line and it held mya very good story line and it held my interest. I liked it all and all but the author jumps around a bit . her writing style is good but needs a little polishing up. I do you recommend it for any Christian horse lover that likes a good story

Ellie Gustafson pens a powerful story of life and redemption in her novel, Dynamo. The amazing tale captures the attention as well as the heart. Realistic characters and unexpected twists keep the reader turning the pages as the story rips along.

A well-written book with a focus on the spiritual and emotional journey of Jeth Cavanaugh, Dynamo explores the struggle of a man's re-introduction into society following prison. It also paints the picture of the cutthroat world of horse-jumping as well as the lives of the owner, trainer, and rider...and the dangers that lurk therein.

For the characterization, focus, and amazing story, I give five stars. I believe information about Dynamo, the stallion could have been expanded on a bit earlier in the plot. I kept waiting for it, especially since the book was named after the horse, but that's not enough for me to dock my review.

***** Five stars, Ms. Gustafson...well, done.

I was given Dynamo from the author to give an unbiased review. This story is about a man, Jeth, fresh out of prison, having a tryst with a woman who's father kind of put him in jail. The next scene is he gets lost meets a man who owns a horse farm and agrees to give him a job. The story then moves forward with information about the job, the training of the horses, the relationship between Rob and Katie and various other things. It was a quick read for me because I liked the story. I love horses and I love Jesus. But, I thought it was shallow and never really fleshed out. Everything was surface, from the relationships of the owners of the farm, the other employees, the horses and the people at the church. The story says very little about Dynamo, the horse that the book was named after. And all of a sudden toward the end of the book Dynamo becomes the main character but it never really led up to that. he was mentioned a few times and then, wham, he was an important character. I thought the whole book was like that. Just kind of lackluster and then it was intense. I liked the story but I wanted to know more. For me it was like it was such a busy story that the author couldn't go in depth about any thing. The Christian part of the story might be hard to relate too, even for strong Christians because some of Jeth's encounters were so intense. I enjoyed the book, it just left me wanting more.
