As a lifelong Captain & Tennille fan, this book was a great look back at Toni's career and life adventures. As a teenager, I enjoyed her music, and the book gives the reader the "behind the scenes" look at how the songs and albums came to be, and their TV variety show as well. Toni does not pull punches on her difficult marriage to Daryl Dragon, nor does she demonize him. She sees him and herself as victims of Dragon's difficult childhood. She did not give up hope for decades that she could reach him through his rock-hard shell.
The books gives a startling picture of the other side of show business life - the endless flights, hotel rooms, and overzealous fans that can be tiring. if not dangerous. Her jobs in California, to touring in Victor/Victoria, speak of her strong work ethic and pride. Truly one of the most gifted singers of our time, her ability to connect to an audience and see the joy her singing brings is what brought her through the hard times. I was especially struck by the wanton drug use in the music industry. I certainly knew it was a part of "the scene," but it helped me understand how we have lost so much great young talent through the years.
There is something for everyone in the book - great for fans on a nostalgia trip, but also keen insights into the 1970s, and the music business with its highs and lows. But most of all, it is the story of how great talent can truly bring joy to millions and certainly to one, Toni Tennille.

I felt as though I were living much of this book with Toni. I'll admit that I got bogged down with some of the details involved in the recording industry among other things. But for the most part I was delighted in the way she tells her story so honestly and thoroughly from the time she is a little girl growing up with a talented but addicted father, a hardworking mother, and three sisters to the many years she shares with Daryl Dragon, her partner in love and business who then becomes her husband and who is obsessed with an extreme diet and addicted to pouring a large amount of money into houses. But these houses weren't love nests. Toni always yearned for more than Daryl could give. Luckily for her, she was able to derive much pleasure from show business and from her cherished dogs and cats. I cried at the end. This memoir has a happy ending. I'm just seven years younger than Toni, and I remember the Captain and Tennille days. I always admired Toni. She's one of those people whose face can light up a room. I'm so happy that she is finally content with her life. Interesting, dramatic, beautiful story.

Very interesting look into Toni's life. The captain sounded like a real trip :/...I was slightly disappointed how abruptly the book ended. But if you grew up in the 70s , you loved the Captain and Tenille..enjoyable read.

As soon as I finished the memoir, I wanted to read more! Learning about Toni's childhood in the south and her career was fascinating, made all the more meaningful with the backdrop of her challenging relationship with Daryl. I want to learn more and see even more photos! A sequel perhaps?!
