Very disappointing. I thought the text was going to be exactly as the title suggested: a discussion as to WHY the Germans lost World Wars I and II. But no such luck. What the book provides is a very good historical presentation of what happened in the various wars from around 1740 through 1945. I had thought that it would discuss issues such as decisions made by the government leadership and army general staff, the thinking behind those decisions, why they turned out to be flawed, analysis of military industrial production, intelligence failures, short term approach to war, logistics (or the lack of planning thereof), misconceptions of war strategy, coordination between the civilian and military spheres of the wars, dealing with allies, and so forth. NOT A WORD! If you are a beginner in the study of the German military and its history from around 1740 to 1945, this might be an OK book. In fact, it is a very good book for a beginner. But it is a waste of money if you are looking for any analysis of why Germany lost its 20th century wars.

Simply a standard narrative about everything we already knew about the German Army. He dose not answer the question as to WHY the Germans lost only the HOW which we already knew.
