This is a great 2-volume set that presents virtually everything one would want to know about the U.S. Constitutional Convention of 1787. It is as claimed "A Comprehensive Encyclopedia of America's Founding".

As will be apparent from the various descriptions - this is an encyclopedia presentation of information. That said, it is presented so skillfully that it is not uncommon to keep on reading the next article after finishing the one that sent you to the volume. The people, the states, the philosophies, timelines, portraits, the various committees and their membership and chairmen, the "plans" debated, even the statistics associated with the Convention are all included, e.g. the number times each of the Delegates addressed the Convention.

It is no doubt an asset to the student, as the editor himself said, but make no mistake this is a very "adult" presentation. In building a volume this expansive, the editor is sometimes constrained by space, but he never talks-down to the reader. For those who's contemporary political views can be annoyed by history presented with a "spin" there is none of that: Professor Vile sticks to the facts. It can be a useful companion to any biography of the period when a bit more detail tempts you as a reader. Each article's list of "Further Reading" is a very useful help when even more is required.
