I just finished my exciting 10,000 km journey with Vanessa. I loved her very descriptive style of writing which made me feel I was on the journey with her. I was in India, in transit, 60 years ago and resolved never to go back there again. The book has changed my mind and I might even try it in a Tata Nano! Look forward to her next book.

I've been there. Over the course of our 45 year marriage, my wife and I have made 17 trips to India together - weddings, funerals, anniversaries, vacations, personal business. Sometimes the trips lasted only 3 days, other times two months. We always visited with family, mostly in the south, and we always traveled all over the country - by plane, train, bus, chauffered car, tuk-tuk, elephant, even ox cart. So, reading about Ms. Able's road adventures often struch a chord, and there was a lot in her book that I enjoyed. She writes a good deal about her car, one of the first Nano's, "the world's cheapest car". Too much in my opinion. I wanted to hear about India, not about a car and its tires, scratches, performance. I also thought all the battles with traffic were overdone. They were quite interesting at first but they got boring after a while. I would have liked to hear a lot more on her perspective of the places she saw as she passed through major cities particularly, and even a bit more description of at least a few of the many small towns. India is an incredible place to visit, people everywhere, and always something new to see right around the corner. Somehow I don't think that was captured.

I just expected more of the stories of the culture and people than what's in the book. But I guess her goal made her cover a lot of distance during the trip and I can tell most of her time was spent in her Nano. She's a good writer and I hope she writes more books of her travel that involves more people.

A bit disappointing. To anyone who's been to India, it's a curiously flat read. For comparison, try Murray Lawrence's "High Times in the Middle of Nowhere." (http://www.amazon.com/High-Times-Middle-Nowhere-Misadventures/dp/0702220132), which captures the place and some of the people in an often hilarious — but affectionate — way.

I like the way the author tells the story but it frankly was not that interesting of a story. The whole story is filled with wit but maybe more rage than I'd think necessary.

I'm in India now and read the book on a seven hour grueling drive from Pushkar to Udaipur. It started out smart and funny but gradually the author devovled into a serious rageaholic. I don't really get why she bothered with the trip. She's not enjoying it. The only emotion she displays is anger and she's especially abusive to the poor guy who travels with her for part of the trip. Her writing's not bad but her attitude is.
