Fanatastic book, and a bargain at the price. This book should be of interest to all clock makers, model makers, and home shop machinist. Anyone interested in the history of machine tools and clock making will also find this work of real interest. The first section covers the history of wheel cutting and the later part deals with all aspects of gear making in detail. Covers a wide range of gear cutting equipment, how to make cutters, and related watch and clock making operations. Absolutely the best book on the subject!!

It is very difficult to describe how extensive this work is, but it is a masterpiece and an absolute requirement if you are going to cut your own wheels and pinions. Within these pages, may things are decribed: how they used to do it, how they do it now, best practices, making your own form tool for making your own gear cutters and on and on and on.

The book is well written and profusely illustrated with line drawings and photographs. It leaves very little to the imagination, so get the book, give it a read and start down the path of cutting your own wheels, for there is only so much reading alone can accomplish. For the watch enthusiast who does not wish to delve into the dark arts, this book provides a solid and beautifully illustrated history of what is perhaps the most difficult challange in traditional watchmaking.

One of the best books on gear cutting written so an average machinist can understand it.

This book was a Christmas gift for my brother-in-law who is a machinist who repairs clocks, vintage Victrolas, etc. The book is full of machines that he has never seen before. A true winner!!

An outstanding book by an author who really knows what he is writing about. It covers every possible aspect of gearing in detail, as well as a great deal about clocks and clock repairs. The text is clear and easy to understand. I lent it to a professional Horologist whose comments were that it was one of the best horology books he had seen. Sadly he did not include drawings of the 'Eureka' backing off tool for which I have had to buy another book.

A great book and welcome edition to my library. Lots of clear pictures and illustrations. Now if I can just find one of those wheel cutters for cutting wooden wheels and pinions.

I bought it to learn about making cutters, but that's a minor part of this book. Mostly about how the machines were made and used to cut gears.
