Bought this book as a birthday gift for my dad to play for his grandson. He said that the book is great because it has plenty of well known songs and easy to learn chords. He is having fun with the book and is enjoying playing guitar for grand baby. Good buy!

My wife and I had a baby 5 months ago. He likes music especially Tool and Metallica. He is broadening his musical interests and has most recently enjoyed the Beatles. My wife, who has a nice voice and plays the guitar a bit, tends to put him to bed by singing him the same two lullabies. one is that "hush little baby" song and the other only has one line "Sleepy baby yeah yeah, sleepy baby in the night". I also sing hush little baby, and about 30 other songs as not to be repetitive, but my singing ability is terrible and he is already starting to realize that so my wife ends up singing to him most nights. By this point Ive heard those same two songs so much I wanna pull my hair out, so I bought my wife and baby this book as a Christmas gift, but Im not sure I can wait another two weeks to give it to them. The book is designed for beginners to learn to play guitar, but I just wanted it for the sheet music and lyrics for us to learn some. In case your wondering we have several lullaby music boxes which he does not seem to like very much, so I also bought him a childrens cd player to play him some real music I will burn for him and he will be able to play with it as he gets older.

This book contains the songs you would want. However, the guitar chords are always the same and are 3 chord songs at best. If I wasn't lazy, I could have figured these out myself or get them for free online.

I hate to leave negative reviews but i was so disappointed. There were only a few songs I recognized. The rest are totally obscure in my opinion. I was looking for the usual stuff featured in children's books and albums, but "I've been working on the railroad" and "my darling clementine" don't really fit this. The search continues for a good guitar book for children's songs - that shouldn't be so hard to find!!

Update: I just want to amend this review because I think my expectations were a little skewed. I was looking for nursery rhyme types of songs to play for my 1 year old. But my husband recognized more of the songs and was satisfied with them. They are just more southern -style and maybe for slightly older children. Also I think others mentioned some of the chords not seeming right - I noticed that and changed some of the chords, but at least this gave me something to work with!

If you spend the time on playing the strum patterns and learning these songs, you and your family will have hours of fun. This really is for beginners and is easy to understand. The CD that comes with this is helpful (although I wish it played the full song). The CD breaks down components of each song and helps you to learn it if you have never heard the song before. I have no complaints about this book! We are having so much fun with it--practicing for our first performance for out overdue baby!
