...but it won't because it's too important. This book is the second in what ultimately is a meditation on good and evil, but instead of falling in with the expected foray into the subject, Sheridan brings it all down to earth by showing us why we have to deal with it. Going to church and saying your prayers won't get you too far, I'm afraid. Sheridan digs deep into the research in psychology and neuroscience, particularly, the study of psychopathy, to reveal the scope of the true horror--that evil has a face, and it appears to be human, but it's not. It's a psychopath. The first book describes the psychopath in great detail so that we can all learn how to detect them as individuals and how to avoid them in relationships. The second book expands that to include the world we live in and the psychopathic power grids in the educational, political, and social domains. Therefore, we are faced with the ultimate challenge--how to become and remain fully human in this dangerous world and how to reclaim the power of that humanity. We have to learn to recognize what is being done to us on a global scale, because, ultimately, the psychopathic power grid is parasitic, feeding on the energy of the human host. No wonder we are all so tired, depressed, and weakened. Fortunately, there are ways to protect our hearts, minds, and souls from these predators, and that is Sheridan's gift to humanity, and he explores this in depth in "Defeated Demons". I am all the richer for having read these books. I would go so far as to say that every sentient human being in the world should know about this subject, and that it should be required reading for students. Period. Do yourself a favor and get wise to ways of the world because we're on a downhill slide, friends, and we need to see what we're up against.

As someone who has read numerous books on the subject, mainly written by academicians, this book proved to be an interesting take on someone who has had first hand experience with this type of person. Defeated Demons is a follow on from Sheriden's first book. There is a little repetition but I feel this was the author being a little too conscious about having to repeat pertinent chunks of information. Nevertheless, it's an enticing read, a quick read and even better a how to guide on getting rid of negative people from your life and keeping your life free of human toxicity.

If you get an opportunity to buy this book, get it. Why? Regardless of whether you have healing wounds or nightmares from psychopathic ex's, parents, ex-colleagues, neighbors etc, this book will help you first of all identify the culprit and inoculate yourself from the usual behaviora traits that most psychopaths tend to use in order to lure you in. Remember, you are more likely to meet such a culprit in business than you are in your personal life.

I just finished reading Defeating Demons. After reading "Puzzling People" which in my view was excellent, I did not think Defeating Demons could surpass Thomas Sheridans prior book. It goes even deeper. An easy read, but packed with deeper insights into the behaviors, and consequences of being taken "under the spell" of a skilled psychopath. I would assume that anyone who picks up Sheridan's books is searching for answers after having been victimized by a psychopath. What lulls so many to sleep is that we have all been raised up to think of the Red Riding Hood Story; the wolf cloaked in a red cape, and the assuming obviousness of his tail dragging behind the cape, making it rather easy to recognize the "wolf in sheeps clothing" as the old saying goes. We tend to think of Charles Manson types, the over-the-top-dark human psychopath, obvious to all but braindead people. One look at Manson in any interview from his prison cell and it takes very little wisdom to discern this man oozes evil from his pores. However, this is the trap that so many fall into, in that many, myself included, were looking for the dark and obvious signs of a demented person. And, this is where the 'flying-under-the-radar' psychopaths manage to weave in and out of normal radar signals. They are amongst us, walking beside us, chatting over coffee, dressed normal, fitting right into the blend of what looks to be crowd around them. They are the co-worker who think nothing of stealing your ideas, and presenting them to the boss as their own. They are the neighbor who gossips in such a way and ends each gossip session with a closing remark to make it appear they actually have some concern for the person they just trashed. Their M.O. is always the same. They steal.Read more ›

I like this book. I like Thomas Sheridan. I liked his last book also. Is it 100% scientific? Probably not. Do I care? No. Do I think he's a charlatan? No. I think he really cares, but even if he doesn't his message is very helpful.

One of the things I like about this author is that he's not afraid to make what some people might think are outrageous statements. I don't know that I believe them all, but I don't know that I disbelieve them either. I'm just not at a point in my life where I can appreciate them intellectually as much as I can appreciate the micro view of one life as it is affected by a single psychopath, since my life certainly was.

There isn't that much new in this book, from what I can see. However, I still recommend it. I love Sheridan's writing style. He's a little repetitive like most nonfiction/kind of self-help books authors can be, but not irritatingly so. Or, maybe it's because I still need a lot of validation for what I experienced, which is why I'm reading this book anyway.

Plus, he's funny. Funny in the way people who say true things are. I like a man who describes psychopaths as celebrating their lives as perfect, while spending most of their time fellating strangers at the bus station.

I don't know that I'm ready to embrace everything Sheridan says about the "Psychopathic control grid", but there was a time that I couldn't fully embrace Roxy music either, but I knew I might in the future. And I sure did.
