Grounded is an enchanting story about a 30-something woman named Annie who leads an exciting life as an international flight attendant until her journey unexpectedly land her home in Kentucky. Annie's intitial cynicism about being back in her provincial hometown gives way to fortuitous self discovery. It's a pleasure to take this journey with Annie, and I look forward to joining her on future adventures!

A takeover of the airline she works for causes Annie to have to return home to the farm she grew up on and to her grandma with whom she never got along. At the same time she finds out the boyfriend she'd intended to move in with has lied continuously. She learns that her old best friend and neighbor, Jake, may be coming home to his parent's farm, too. Grandma is in need of knee surgery, but has put it off. One day she falls in the newly tilled garden. While she's not further hurt, she knows she can't put off the surgery any longer. Annie determines to take over her grandma's usual summer chores; planting and caring for the garden, canning vegetables, and caring for the old farmhouse. Annie falls back in love with the farm and the people she knew growing up. She's called to go to work for the airline who took over the one for which she'd worked. What will she do? Does seeing Jake again make her realize he was the man she'd loved always? And what about her relationship with God? What about the mysterious renter?
A great read.

If you are trapped in a rat race and slowing down is not an option, you can at least dream about it with this read. Like the meals served at Beulah's dining table the book is seasoned with tears and laughter, a sprinkling of sadness and joy, some mystery to chew on and romance served for dessert. I read the last two chapters slowly because I didn't want it to end.

Not only is this debut novel an excellent fiction read, it also offers the reader a practical how-to guide to good and decent living. How to plant a garden. How to can green beans. How to ride a horse. How to feed a crowd. How to invest in the future. How to care for your loved ones. The list goes on and on. These are the traditional values of yesterday that are making a strong comeback in these uncertain times. Grounded teaches us the essentials to living and to living well today. You will enjoy every step.

Annie left home and college after her graduation looking for adventure. As a flight attendant she saw the world. After ten years of employment, her employers were bought out by another airliner. Lacking seniority or a language skill, Annie was let go. She goes home to the Kentucky farm and reevaluate her values. A very good storyline.

I really enjoyed this book-- the characters were very believable and I appreciated that the author didn't place them in some of the tired, cliched situations that many romance authors do. I also really enjoyed the emphasis on sustainable living and taking joy in simple pleasures. Looking forward to the next book... and wish I live in KY to come visit the author's farm-to-table restaurant and hand-made goat's milk soap shop!

Annie Taylor is living the life of her dreams. She’s a regular flight attendant on the New York/Rome route and has given notice to her three flight attendant roommates on their apartment. She’ll move in with her boyfriend after this flight.

As fate would have it, the obnoxious woman in first class has information Annie needed to know about Stuart and she realizes she can’t go through with her planned move. Then the rumors of a takeover of the airline she works for become reality. She finds herself without a job and without a home.

What choice does she have but return to Kentucky to visit her grandmother? Except they’d never been close. The link that had bound them together after Annie’s mother’s death was Annie’s grandfather, who’s now gone. Even a week or two butting heads with her opinionated grandmother may be too much, but Annie can see Beulah needs help. It becomes Annie’s job to try to convince her grandmother to sell the farm and move into town, but the old woman won’t budge.

Jake, the boy-next-door and Annie’s childhood playmate, keeps returning to Kentucky as he determines whether to stay in his successful banking career or grasp his dream of sustainable farming with gusto. His fiancee may have something to say about that, though.

While Annie waits for the take-over dust to settle in New York and to be rehired by the new airline, she takes over the garden and canning under Beulah’s tutelage. She finds her roots more tightly bound in Kentucky soil than she’d imagined. Will she return to the city and the skies, or stay grounded?

Grounded is a sweet story of homecoming and the value of simple living. It’s also a perfect example of farm lit from a Christian worldview. Farm lit is all about the life of modern-day “new” farmers.

It is so good, can hardly put it down. Takes me back to my childhood Farm life. The characters are so real,
you want them to stay in your life forever. It is the first book I have read twice. Can hardly wait for
the next one.
