I was hooked by this medical thriller and am eager to read more from this talented author. It's obvious that CJ Lyons has vast medical experience and the authentic details make the hospital scenes come alive. Dr. Cassie Hart is a compelling and well-drawn character with an interesting past. She is strong yet vulnerable at the same time, and this makes for a three-dimensional protagonist. I suspect that the author chose the last name Hart for a reason, as Cassie finds herself growing close to Detective Drake and letting him into a heart that has taken a beating over the years. The mix of romance and suspense makes for a page-turning read. I'd highly recommend this book for mystery lovers, as well as for fans of romantic suspense and medical thrillers. This novel is a steal for the low price.

CJ Lyons knows how to write a medical mystery/drama, since she has been in the medical field herself. In this story she makes you feel like you are part of the book and you get so involved in reading the book you do not want to put it down.
Cassie Hart is a determined young woman who cnnot trust anyone to help her until she meets Detective Mickey Drake. When these two meet the vibes between them are definitely hot.
This story is action packed from minute one and once you read a CJLbook you will be hooked.
There is a second book with Cassie and Drake in it. If I may suggest, get both books and read them one after the other.
CJ Lyons has another hit on her hands.

I just finished this book and bought the sequel "Sleight of Hand" Having a Kindle means not having to wait to get the next book. Nerves kept me guessing until almost the end. Cassie is trying to stop the flow of drugs that is hurting and killing people. She isn't perfect so she is believable and likable. A lot of action and a believable plot. I would recommend this book to people who like books by authors such as Robin Cook.

I was excited when I started to read this book. I'm a former ER nurse, from Pittsburgh and I enjoyed all the Pgh references to Pittsburgh landmarks and sights. But the book did not ring true to me. Motivations for her actions were just plain stupid. What ER doc, particularly female would take on homeless drug addicted teens in a warehouse or abandoned housing, fight with a drug lord and yet be so unsure of herself in relationships but so sexually controlling and aggressive with a cop? really? All that talk about her brown belt in martial arts and everybody beats her up and overpowers her. you'd think she could take care of herself a little better. all that shaking and nausea when she was upset. how can she manage to work in an ER? and btw, she only worked on shift for the entire book. the rest of the time she's running up and down stairs to ICU, the pharmacy, the police morgue and looking for homeless kids. Maybe if she had gone to work sometimes, she woul have been safer. that whole long stretch about her grandparetns shouldn't have even been there. I started skimming pages to try to end the torture. It's hard for me to just not finish a book. But, near the end when she wouldn't see the cop because she had killed with her own 2 hands, and he wouldn't see her because she must be "disgusted with him because he hadn't done the killing, I would have thrown it in the trash if it hadn't been on my Kindle!
I've never attempted a reveiw before but this book deserves a warning.!

This book was not good at all. I am perplexed at the number of positive reviews. Without giving away specific spoilers (but there are a few, so don't continue if you don't want learn about some plot details), I'll say that the plot is trite, the characterization is thin and unconvincing, dialog is stilted, and the narrative is absolutely ridiculous. This protagonist is just dumb. Her decisions are stupid, and she continually contradicts herself. It's enough to give a reader whiplash. She's an ER doc with no apparent common sense. She puts people in danger, acknowledges she may be doing the wrong thing, but just convinces herself her motivations are noble. She's always out on the "mean streets," swanning about in her efforts to single-handedly stop the stream of illegal drugs. She doesn't think much of the police. She's insufferable. )There's a back story to her control issues, but it's not told well enough to make her sympathetic.) And her relationship with the cop? More stupidity. She wants him, she doesn't, back and forth and so on and so on. Amazingly, he wants her -- forget that she's an oblivious danger magnet who's going to derail his career with her selfish insistence on doing things her way. Anyway, after a lot of painful angst, he now thinks he should back off. Ugh. Why? He feels guilty he let her down. After all, he's a big, strong cop and the bad guy got the drop on him. She feels guilty for killing someone who tried to kill her, because, after all, she's a DOCTOR, and should only be saving lives, not taking them. I wish I had read the more of the reviews before I decided to purchase. This is sub-par, simplistic soap opera drivel. You might want to think twice before you buy.

This is not my first CJ Lyons book but the first that I really disliked. The main characters were continually making bad choices that no one in real life would ever consider and that I could scarcely believe. If you watch ANY crime drama on tv, you know the formula and will figure out the bad guy in the first 50 pages. She telegraphs plot points. Tension is (attempted) to be built by having the main characters keep things from each other. Even the sex was boring. I could go on but I think you get the point.
