There are a lot of great books out there covering the popular topic of hunting whitetail deer. Believe me, I own most of them. Boone & Crockett Club has raised the bar with their most recent publication, "Complete Guide to Hunting Whitetails". Written by some of the most knowledgable and experienced sportsman in the world, this book gives more insight in 272 pages than a dozen lifetimes of deer hunting could provide.

Everything from field judging, trophy scoring, deer anatomy and shot placement, as well as tips and tactics are discussed in highly digestible detail. This book is packed with some incredible photography and well organized statistics that make it incredibly hard to put down. An easy read from cover to cover that will leave the reader with more whitetail intuition than previously thought possible. Whether shopping for a gift for a hunter or simply building your collection of hunting literature, your search ends here. You will not be disappointed.

As someone who hunted as a kid, but has been away for almost 20 years, I was hoping for something that could really get me going again. This book is not it....at all. Takes 108 pages to get to any hunting tactics which last only 70 pages. In other words, 75% (yes, I did the math) of this book has nothing to do with actually getting a deer. Those 70 pages contain mostly anecdotal accounts of cool hunts by the various authors. I must say I'm supremely disappointed with this book; I'm probably going to return it and just suck up the shipping charges.

I hesitate to recommend this book to anyone. If you're good enough for trophy bucks, you don't need this book. If you're not a trophy hunter, you don't need this book. In other words, regardless of who you are, you don't need this book.

On the other hand, if you want this book as a read during the offseason, then sure, give it a shot. Otherwise, steer clear.

I think Boone and Crockett pulled a marketing gimmick on us by slapping their name on a book and charging us twenty bucks....

This is not a complete guide to hunting whitetails. While it does have a few articles about hunting deer (80 pages, including pictures, out of 272 total), it is almost exclusively about aging and scoring whitetail bucks' antlers by the Boone and Crockett Club's rating system. The best part for me were the kill-shot diagrams.

I would have given this book two stars for its representative title, but I couldn't say I didn't like it.
