My First Origami Kit is a nice collection of designs and paper, and the facial-feature stickers have been fun for my 6-year old granddaughter, however, I have two caveats for those who are considering this kit: 1) with my many years of origami experience, I didn't think the instructions for many of the figures were as good as I've seen everywhere else; I think they'd be frustrating to someone who wasn't familiar with origami. 2) Also, I think the suggested age range (6 and older) on the Amazon description is way too young. My granddaughter has fun watching me make the figures, but I find that she is too young to do anything herself. The package itself has no age range suggestion on it at all.

Joel Stern and Tuttle have produced yet another great contribution that's sure to draw more people into the world of paperfolding magic.

"My First Origami Kit" is handsomely packaged and more than reasonably priced for the amount of stuff you get back: Instructions to 20 fun models that are mostly non-traditional, a packet of paper with original printing, and stickers to enhance the models.

This could be your 2nd or 27th origami kit, and you will still want to add this to your library collection for the quality of work that went into this. Perfect gift for birthdays and for the holidays.

Joel Stern is a wonderful, generous origami teacher and designer. If you've never done origami before, Joel will get you hooked with this kit. If you have done origami before and are looking for something a step "above" traditional models, this is the next stage. If you are an advanced folder who also teaches, you'll immediately recognize the charm in these models, and the value in being able to teach these to beginners as well as those who are looking for models that are a bit more challenging.

I've been doing origami since I was 8 and teaching it for almost 2 decades. There is tremendous value in the simple joys of folding paper into complex 2 and 3-dimensional figures; and there is tremendous value in purchasing "My First Origami Kit".

SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?! GET IT NOW!!!!

First of all, it comes with a lot of paper, the paper seems to be good quality and there is a wide variety of designs. However, this is not an easy kit due to poorly illustration instructions. The steps to be simple, but the instructions are impossible to follow for some of the basic folds that are needed for many of the projects. My 7 year old is intelligent, and I am intelligent, but we were unable to figure out how to do the Waterbomb Base which is the foundation for several of the latter projects. We ended up having to watch videos online, which made the process much easier than the instructions in the book. If you are willing to get some help online, it might be good for you. Maybe if you are a pro at assembling Ikea furniture based on those drawings you may find these instructions easy! We did not.

My First Origami Kit by Joel Stern is a great book for children and teenagers who have interest in learning origami. Not only does the kit come with some neat paper specifically designed for certain models (not the plain origami paper you typically see in stores), it also comes with lots of stickers for children to place on their finished models to give them more character.

I folded all the models in the kit and found the instructions very easy to follow. My two favorite models to fold were the "Caramel Bear" and "Edward the Elephant". These are the two models that are unique to this book and this author. The Bear is something I have used multiple times in cards (for baby showers and Valentine's Day) as its design lends perfectly to be pasted into a folded card. For baby showers I have the bear holding a smaller version of the bear model It looks good in foil paper and it's body portion is very easy to make. The Elephant also provides an easy solution for the body and concentrates on the head. I enjoyed folding and making the trunk for the elephant and thought that it came out really well.

I've always loved origami, but have found many other books to be difficult to follow. With this kit, I was able to make great looking models on the first try! The directions are easy to understand and even include fun tips to make the models move, or to give the animals extra "personality". The models come out looking great thanks to the beautiful patterned paper and stickers that are custom made for each model, which means that even as a beginner, I ended up with life-like creations. This kit is great for kids, or for adults like me with "two left thumbs." Definitely recommend!

My First Origami Kit is a lovely way to introduce origami to children or all those who are young at heart.

What I love about this Kit:

* The step-by-step instructions combine photographs and standard origami symbols to make them very easy to follow.

* Twenty origami models are included in a small-size book that is easy to carry in your pocket or purse.

* There is an assortment of models, some traditional and some of the author's creation. Some of the models are toys, but most are animals.

* My First Origami Kit can be used as a lovely way to introduce children to the animal kingdom, and the concepts of reptiles, mammals, birds and insects, as all these categories are represented in this book.

* A particular model I'd like to highlight is a Teddy Bear that "talks" when you open and close its arms. It also folds flat and can be attached to a greeting card. Hint: Having instructions for this model alone is worth the prize of the whole book ;-)

* My First Origami Kit includes special origami paper and stickers for creature's eyes and noses. In all, this little kit is BIG fun!
