So glad to find this book! I've seen more of the photos, and this would be catnip for any cat person!

I learned of this book on BuzzFeed ( [...] )

"Thirteen years ago, photographer Miyoko Ihara began snapping pictures of the budding relationship between her now 88-year-old grandmother, Misa, and her odd-eyed kitten, Fukumaru. Since Misa found the cat abandoned in a shed, the pair have barely ever been apart. Their beautiful friendship is documented in a photo book, Misao the Big Mama and Fukumaru the Cat."

Got to have it, even if I cannot read it in Japanese. The pictures are enough.

I simply love this little book. I found out about it by accident when I was visiting Japan and rushed to the bookstore to buy it. It's the most cherished thing I brought back with me. The photos are beautiful and tell a wonderful story of a friendship. It's true there's only a handful of them but for me it's just the right number chosen by the author to say what she wanted to say. There's no description of the photos either but they're powerful enough to send their message.
This will be definitely one of those books that you pull out every time you feel a bit on a low side. It can cheer you up in a second. I only regret I bought just one copy. I know now how many of my friends would appreciate this little gem.

There's a true love between cats and their owners that cats are loathe to show to outsiders but yet it is captured in these wonderful photos. Their universe is simple, home and garden, but their connection to it (and each other) is intimate. It will convince even the most hard-core dog lover that cats too can be loving creatures. This book is a true treat for the soul.

The photographs of this solitary woman and her cat are both timeless and universal. There is great love in every image: of the photographer for her elderly grandmother, of cats and nature, the change of seasons, and a simple life lived in a balance of work, companionship, and beauty.

Misao and Fukimaru have an amazing relationship, one that has been lovingly captured in photographs by Misao's granddaughter.

Some people talk about how good photography tells a story, and the story in these images is one of beauty, love, compassion and friendship. I wish that I could read Japanese, but I didn't need to; that's how moving the photos are in this book.

When I first saw this story online, I ordered the book directly from overseas. It had not hit the American market yet, and I could not wait!

The pictures are absolutely beautiful. If you love and feel the human-critter connection, don't hesitate to treat yourself to this magnificent collection of heartwarming images. I cannot say enough good things about this book, and although I could rattle on and on about it, the beauty is beyond words anyways!

I'm so thankful that the photographer (the granddaughter) has chronicled this soulful friendship between human and feline. It is truly a gift to treasure. Opening up this book, slowly flipping through the shiny photographs, I am transported into a world of love and caring and equality among beings. My heart fills up.

I'm excited to find out that a new book is coming out soon! I will be buying forthwith!

This is a very sweet photo story book. It was much smaller than I expected and a little pricey, but I'm glad I purchased the book. It is obviously a labor of love!

I got this book because Misao looks exactly like my grandmother, so it's personally endearing to me. It's basically just pictures, so don't buy it if you're looking for some kind of story unless the story you want is a visual of an elderly lady with her best friend cat - which is adorable without saying.
