Product Description

The year is 1736, and rebellion rolls across the English countryside as the peasants of the Dymchurch parish struggle inder the strain created by King George III's oppressive taxes. To crush the resistance of the local commoners, the tyrannical General Pugh (Geoffrey Keen) is dispatched to the area, where he begins a reign of terror. But, from his refuge in the swamps of Romney Marsh, the Irish vicar Dr. Syn (Patrick McGoohan), disguised as 'The Scarecrow', rides with a courageous band of smugglers to the defense of the hard-pressed farmers. Swashbuckling deeds and explosive action highlight this classic Disney tale of intrigue and adventure!

5.0 out of 5 stars McGoohan is magnificent!!, November 27, 2002
A much filmed story as Dr. Syn, Peter Cushing - Oliver Reed's version called Night Creatures are good, but this version done as a three part Disney production is outstanding. I saw this as a child and instantly fell in love with Patrick McGoohan, my first crush...lol, and have been a big fan ever since. It is a rousing tale of smuggling, of phantoms on the moor and outwitting the King's men. I have it on video, but would desperately love to see this one released on DVD.

It is a shame that Disney neglects the group of English based films they did in late 50's. There were some wonderful films such as Scarecrow that need release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disney.....you're killing me!!!!, August 4, 2004
By Lynn Hawk "CLR102174" (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
I was anxiously awaiting Scarecrow to be released on DVD when I received notice from Amazon that it was not coming out yet. I re-read the email 5 times because I was sure I was reading wrong. And yes, I'm heartbroken. I have a old, old, old tape of the Scarecrow that I recorded back in the 1980's directly from TV. After all these years, the sound and picture are awful, I think it's dry rotted by now. This is an absolutely fantastic movie, Patrick McGoohan is awesome. The Scarecrow is a very important part of my childhood. Come on Disney, I'm desperate here! Stop torturing me and release it on DVD!!!
