Love it!!! To the point, no nonsense writing style. All claims (seemingly outrageous but honest and in my experience, true!) supported by scientic info. Great tips and suggestions for what-to-eat for Indian vegetarians. My fav part - eat lots of different things throughout the day (in limited quanity of course) to get a balanced veg meal :-) The can-do attitude the book encourages will actually make you INITIATE THE CHANGE in your lifestyle. The focus on a well-rounded healthy living by managing both diet and exercise together is I think the crux of her book. She gives you tips on how to go about it. But essentially if you get the principles in the book, you can be the designer of your own healthy life!

Really like the book. I wish I could personally consult with her. ;) super expensive!!! 😜
Everything about this book is great , the only thing which might bother non indian people ( if there are any) is some of the slangs/words/phrases/sentences which only an Indian can understand.
Otherwise it is a very informative book.
P.S. - I know a female personally who took consultation from Rujuta Diwekar and has lost weight by eating right. So I assume her principles/guidelines work.

The overarching msg I get from the book is another method for me to follow around 'getting in touch with myself'. Food is One of the ways an individual can connect with his/her inner self (rather is an imp process to move inward) - "Anna he purnabrahma" (here brahma can mean god/our inner or spiritual self)
The day we start recognizing our hunger signals and eat accordingly, we reach the first step... etc
Its a 'simple to understand', metaphorical, persuasive book!
Close on the heels of realizing, "why do I need an external validation of 'myself'?, when I love myself and love being with myself" and to achieve this - understanding the importance of trying to be in touch with myself (by increasing awareness), I tumbled upon this book...(I had heard about it in bits and pieces but not read it)

The day we start recognizing our hunger signals and eat accordingly, we reach the first step... Rujutha connects the dots well - Ayurveda, Yoga and Nutrition science. She literally shouts 'dont kill yourself by starving'. Eat nutrient rich meal close to your 'genes' at the right time, right quantity, and calorie intake will fall in place if we follow 4 principles (the cornerstone of her book). Stop chasing calories by hanging your stomach on the 'suli'. She shames 'We understand our cars, houses, heart and lungs so much better and forget the energy churning stomach...

The book provides common sense to our eating habits. The problem is that it assumes that we all lead normal lives, with time to breathe, and smell our food and wake up plenty in time to make big breakfast or get home early enough to cook health meals. It assumes also that the non-Indian readers can somehow figure out all the Indian ingredients and follow up. On the flip side I really enjoyed her sense of humor and the reasonable approach in food. I haven't lost any inches but I liked all the stories shared and advices on how and when to eat food and make it work for you. Thanks.

I must say that Rujutha is born for a cause. I always held that no food is good or bad. I had no words when people performed their tadkas as rituals with one teaspoon oil, cut down on those delicious South Indian chutneys in the name of gaining weight - as they gorged away happily on sweets and bought those fat free and artificial Margarine in place real butter. This used to bring tears in my eyes.C'mon, my mother and grandmothers cooked with real tadkas wafting their aromas upto half a kilometer, ate healthy Indian Food and lived a healthy life. They were not fat !! What is wrong with us? Please God !! Save Indian Food, my heart would rent out a cry. Rujutha has saved Indian Food, our parathas, ghee, chutneys, the tastiest and the most nutritious fares from the onslought of ignorance. Hats off to this woman!!! I admire her. We needed her.

I loved everything about the book and eat fearlessly now and realize now, how less I ate, and starved myself (though I was never on any of the fad diet programs and never overweight ),but being a busy Student, a globe-trotting professional I had hardly the time and mood to eat and in the process, I made my body suffer years in silence, while it managed me with it's much hated 'fat stores'. I have stopped this atrocity on myself now. I will eat my favorite foods, Indian, italian, whatever., in a moderate way for a life time now and that is called a Diet!!! I love it.

This book is a must read for anyone interested in a healthy life irrepective of their geographical Location, latitude or longitude. It's principles are the fundamental take aways that apply to any culture.
