At 55 yrs old and being a lifelong doo-wop lover, this album to me is still the number one all-time greatest. After listening to it off and on for forty years, it still holds its own as the ultimate doo-wop album, especially the first cut Florence featuring Julius McMichaels.......

For many people the DO-WOP sound has become any old record made in New York that didn't sell. This CD is what DO-WOP is supposed to be like. It's also one that has more than 2 or 3 great songs on it. I bought it when it originally came out as an LP and would never let it go since.

If there was such a thing as HARDCORE DOO WOP, this album would be heavyweight champ.

Yeah, what's up with the cover? Looks like it got mixed up with the GAY HITS FOR LEATHERMEN compilation. I think they're suggesting it's HARDCORE DOO WOP. Whatever. It's LAME!! But the music is not. This is what it was all about, friends. SCORE THIS, FOR SURE!! And why not display the CD cover prominently atop your stereo? Get your friends talking.

Along with RHINO, COLLECTIBLES puts out great DOO WOP CDs. And this is THE BEST!!

Also check out some of their FOR COLLECTORS ONLY series. Especially the 2 Disc DEL VIKINGS and the 2 Disc FLAMINGOS CDs.

...to the time when doo-wop ruled the airwaves. "The Paragons Meet the Jesters" is right up there with the greatest doo-wop albums of all time. All the hits from two of the best doo-wop groups from the Fifties are on this album. And does this ever bring back memories... I still remember parties at friends' houses when I was a teenager, slow-dancing to "So Strange", "Florence", and "Two Hearts Are Better Than One" or boppin' to "I'm Falling in Love." The Jesters were five kids from Harlem who used to hang out and harmonize under the elevated tracks of the New York Central (now Amtrak), and the Paragons were five guys out of Brooklyn, and the music each group made was magic. Together, they make up an album that blows you away.

Just one problem, and it's not with the music -- why in the world did they release an album of great hits from two black groups with two punky-looking white guys wearing fake leather gang jackets on the cover? Did they think if they showed two black guys on othe cover, the album wouldn't sell? That may have been the case way back in 1958 when this album initally came out, but hey, this is the 21st century. Memo to the guys at Collectables: get with the program and change that dorky cover. This is no way to showcase an album as great as this one is.

...but the packaging leaves something to be desired. Instead of photographs of the talented black vocalists responsible for the fine music you hear, you get a couple of caucasian cast-offs from West Side Story! Oh well. I have the Collectables edition listed here with no liner notes, individual group member names, or any additional photographs inside. The Relic label also issued this album on CD with the same front cover. But I bet their edition has a booklet with information and maybe even photos, as Relic has done a better job with R&B vocal group reissues than just about anyone else on the block.

The Paragons & The Jesters were two of the finest R&B groups ever! This cd features the best of both groups, if you want to hear some great doo-wop here's a great place to start! It's a shame there isn't oldies stations keeping this great sound spinning anymore!

This album (CD) takes me back to when it was safe to jump double dutch rope on the city streets of the South Bronx, when young fellas spinned tops; when red lights lit up house parties and girls and boys who hung out together wore the same sweaters with their club names on them... when blow harmony under a street light gave you enough credibility to perform doo wop at the school prom... and "The Wind" was the most popular love song!

I originally purchased this album as a teenager when it was released on a 33 1/3 rpm album in the early 1960's. Needless to say I was extremely happy to locate it on a CD. It certainly brings back memories.
