5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece... Need I Say More?, December 22, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: News of the World (Audio CD)
Yet another Queen masterpiece... hardly surprising is it? After all, we are talking about a band that you just can't imagine to be anything but legendary. As a friend of mine once said, they are like a dream band. Freddie Mercury - fantastic singer. Brian May - fantastic guitarist. Roger Taylor - fantastic drummer. John Deacon - fantastic bass player. And each one a fantastic songwriter. See? You can't go wrong with buying an album by these guys. Perfect in every area.

So, on with the review. News of The World took my breath away, literally. A Night At The Opera took my breath away also, so I knew it had to mean something good. What better way to start an album than with two of the most well-known songs in the world, We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions. Classics, the pair of them. Then it can only get better, as we are treated to Sheer Heart Attack, a fast-moving rocker guaranteed to get you headbanging. Things are slowed down a bit with All Dead, All Dead - plenty of time for recovery. But that doesn't mean it's a boring song. It is a beautiful piece of work, on which Brian May sings more sweetly than you could have hoped for (nice one Brian!) Then comes Spread Your Wings, a John Deacon composition that I'm sure you'll agree is one of his best songs. The next track is one of my favourites, Fight From The Inside, which features Roger Taylor singing lead vocal (I've always loved his voice) and some cool guitar. Very funky track. Get Down, Make Love is next up and is a very interesting song. Followed by a Brian May classic, Sleeping On The Sidewalk. After that is Who Needs You which is another Deacon song. I really like the acoustic guitar work in that one. And then we have It's Late, which is the longest song on the album but boy is it wicked! And finally to finish off, we have My Melancholy Blues, a Freddie song which lingered in my mind long after I listened to it. It is a nice, slow piano-based track and Freddie's vocals are beautiful in it (aren't they always). It certainly does leave you feeling a bit melancholy.

By all means buy this one. It is absolutely fantastic and well worth the listen - or two, or three, or four... heck, a thousand!

3.0 out of 5 stars MFSL Gold CD Version..., November 2, 2008
By Jamie Tate (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was somewhat disappointed with the sound of the MoFi gold CD. This CD suffers from over-mastering... too much top and bottom end EQ was applied during mastering. The result is midrange suck out which takes away power from the instruments, especially the vocals and guitars. The Hollywood CD sounds harsh so I recommend finding an old EMI CD from the UK. It wasn't overdone during mastering and has a more natural and powerful sound. Just turn the volume up a little.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is not "A Night At The Opera"... But it rocks hard!, June 21, 2007
This review is from: News of the World (Audio CD)
This sixth Queen Album may not have that wonderful voice and overdubbing games that Freddie Mercury and Co. made in "A Night At The Opera" or "A Day At The Races", but anyway is a real Rock masterpiece worth to be in your Rock CD collection.

Try the double set of "We Will Rock You + We Are The Champions"... Now a real classic double tune, as any Beatles, Beach Boys or Elvis piece. Try "Sheer Heart Attack"... Best Punk Rock tune ever made. Try "Get Down Make Love" or "It's Late"... best Classic Rock. Try "Who Needs You"... best 60s-70s AM classic Pop.

No doubt: these Brits of Queen are first-class Rockmakers. Get this album, listen to it one, three, more times... Bet you'll become a Queen-adict as me and thousands of others around the world!!!!!
