Biography

White Zombie was named after a 1932 horror flick and it's easy to see the influence in their music and image. Their driving, heavy music is redolent with satanic and horror imagery.

The band was formed in 1985 by Rob Zombie and their first release was the EP Gods on Voodoo Moon, though it's fair to say not many were sold - the band still own 200 of the 300 pressed. After two more similarly… Read more in Amazon's White Zombie Store

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Remix albums are often iffy propositions. Either the remixes add nothing to the originals, or veer off so unrecognizably that you wonder what made you want to hear the damn songs in the first place. Well, this disc--essentially a chopped 'n' channeled version of the Zombies' Astro-Creep 2000--deftly avoids both of those pitfalls, thanks in large part to the indelible freak-show presence of Rob Zombie. Some mixes, like those by house music whiz Mike "Hitman" Wilson and psychedelic rappers P.M. Dawn, push the envelope extensively, while industrial master John Fryer and the ubiquitous Dust Brothers just enhance the band's freak-show quintessence. Fans of the surreal should note the presence of a cover of K.C. & the Sunshine Band's "I'm Your Boogie Man." --David Sprague

3.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Decent, July 17, 2005
By Gunther Haagendazs (Up High in the Trees) - See all my reviews
When I bought this, it was really cheap and this was the only White zombie CD not in my collection so I figured, why not? Well I prepared myself to cringe, figuring Astro Creep would be butchered, since Rob Zombie's American Made Music to Strip By had done just exactly that to Hellbilly Deluxe. Half of the Remix's on here are not bad at all, the other half of them are not that great but none of them are nessisarily agonizing to listen to. The best one's have been remixed by Charlie Clouser (Electric head pt. 2, More human than Human, Real Solution #9 and El Phantasmo...) The only song from Astro Creep that hasn't been Remixed is Creature of the wheel and the reason for that I think is that that awesome sludge song would have been pretty hard to remix. So instead, the Dust Brother remixed White Zombie's cover of K.C. and the Sunshine Band's I'm Your Boogie Man, which was originally found on the Soundtrack for the Crow (which by the way is a really good movie). Other remixes that are not half bad include the I' Zombie Remix and the Super Charger Remix. However remixes like those of Blur the Technicolor and Blood, Milk and Sky fall flat into annoyance. The worst remix here is by far the one for Electric Head pt. 1, in which the original was so good that it's honestly no surprise of how bad this version is. It's not a must have to own in your collection, only if you are a big fan of Rob Zombie and White Zombie. Get this cheap or used, and you can appreciate it a little more. As for Rob's other remix album, don't even bother. And as for the CD jacket, well there is no nudity but I have the sudden urge to buy a hammock. Hoped this helped.

4.0 out of 5 stars White Zombie - 'Supersexy Swingin' Sounds' (Geffen), December 11, 2004
First off,let me say just how much I LOVE the lay-out art work on this CD release(hubba-hubba!).They used several full color adult pin-ups from(would have to be)the late '60's era.I must also admit that I may like this disc better than I do their 'Astro-Creep:2000' mostly because it has a diverse sound on just about every tune.Totally dug the after dark mix of "Electric Head Pt.2",the raw mix of "Grease Paint And Monkey Brains" and the ass-kicking wine, women and song mix of "Blood,Milk And Sky" the most.Great compilation CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite remix album, July 11, 2002
Usually remix albums are a horrible thought. Very rarely do they deliver a complete experience and most remixes these days seem to just take one line out of a song and repeat it over a crummy breakbeat. However, Supersexy Swingin' Sounds is more like another interpretation of one of the best albums out there, Astro Creep 2000. All the sings from Astro Creep are remixed here (excluding Creature Of The Wheel and I Zombie) plus a remix of "I'm Your Boogie Man" which originally appeared on the Crow City Of Angels soundtrack. All the mixes on here sound awesome, I don't think there is a track on here I don't like. I pretty much wore out my Astro Creep CD, so this is a new way of listening to it. My favorite remix would have to be the Wine, Women & Song Mix of "El Phantasmo & the Chicken Run Blast-O-Rama" which just almost surpasses it's original (It's also pretty much the theme song of a radio station here). If you are a fan of White Zombie's or Rob's work, I strongly recommend you pick this up. It's not like other remix albums and I promise it won't disappoint.
