I have been using Maxell XLII audio cassettes since 1980 or so and have had very good experiences recording with them. They capture the sound of the LP, cassette, or CD I'm recording as a backup version to play on my walkman with near perfection. They last quite a long time, and their playback quality does not fade for many years. I understand Maxell will no longer be manufacturing the XLII-90. That's a shame, it is an excellent product.

I've been buying most of my XLIIs from Amazon.com or the Amazon.com marketplace merchants for more than 5 years now, and I've never been dissapointed with the excellent service I've received, the quick delivery, or the condition of the brand new, still in the original plastic packaging cassette tapes.

Like another reviewer on the 90-Minute 5 Pack item, I can verify that these tapes have too much drag in the mechanism. On my Nakamichi BX-300, they frequently stop during recording or playback. It's a tension problem, wherein a high end deck will purposefully stop advancing the tape to avoid breakage; basically, it thinks the tape is stuck. Cheapo decks that do not have this feature may work fine with these tapes. I've had no problem with other, commercially available cassettes on this deck.

My advice, if you have these tapes, is to run them a bit before you record to them. Pop 'em in your deck and fast forward the entire tape, then rewind fully. Maybe a few times. With one tape, after recording one side just fine it was stopping every 3 seconds no matter where I started from on the opposite side, until I performed the above. YMMV. Recorded audio sounds fine.

I would add that these are recommended in the Nakamichi owner's manual. Go figure.

I have been buying Maxell XL II's for years, my car still has a built in cassette deck, so I make tapes for driving about, and I tell you for that purpose, you get the best sound. I like my highs to be bright and crisp and I can only get them on the XL-II High Bias tapes, I have a separate EQ from my Amp, so depending on the song and the original recording I can tweak the EQ and get the Crisp sound I want for my car's stereo.
So depending on what you are buying this tape for, I will say for Music, I don't think there is anything better, and over the years I have tried them all.

Bought tons of these in the 80's, and 90's, now they are like gold. Used to get 3 for the price of one of these, but I'm sure they've stopped producing them now, so they will be precious if you can find them. Can't beat the quality of the
Maxells, if only I had stashed a few packs of these things years ago!

I thought I was ordering ONE PACK of 10 cassettes from Data Unlimited, for the price indicated, plus a stiff shipping and handling charge -- $13 total. What I received was a single cassette. I just want to make sure other customers are clear about this.

A little on the pricey side for this type of dying technology. Especially when you could get these tapes five or six year ago for around $1.00 per
tape or less for a 5 pack.

When nothing but the best will do, then Maxell high-bias tape is the recording medium required. With all my heart I recommend this highly because it is all I will use.
