These recordings, taped when Shura Cherkassky was in his early seventies, finds the irrepressible pianist in relaxed fettle. He tickles the ear with ravishing nuances and intriguing but not obtrusive inner voices. One might wish for more cumulative power and less fidgeting in the final climaxes, but piano buffs will find a lot to enjoy here. --Jed Distler
