Post Elmore James era recognizes three great slide blues guitar players: J.B. Hutto, Hound Dog Taylor and Homesick James. The latter was cousin of great Elmore James from whom he studied slide guitar but later developed easily distinguishable, his own, unique style of playing.
Listener notices uniqueness from the first chord. No noise, no long and tiring guitar solos here. Homesick's slide is calm, blues is floating here. No unnecessary note is plaid and among 11 compositions there is no song leaving boundaries of pure blues. I've listened to this album dozens of times and noticed that every time I want to listen to particular song, I can't do it and listen to whole album. Yes, that's the mesmerizing blues of maestro Homesick James who by the time of recording this album was 87 years old. True legend. I love this guy! You must have this album, he must have this album and she must have this album. Everybody must have this album..

Sincerely, only listening the beginning of the record opening Blues track you already remain touched, what a great BLUES `of those that are smelt' how it is said in the slang of the Blues, but of course, the remainder of the record is not less what ¡big BLUES songs! they are of those fantastic and authentic Blues that you always expect to find when you are ready to listen a great BLUES record. James's band the habitual quartet with second guitar, bass, drums and some organ. In some themes as in "Shake your money maker" or "Truck drivin' woman" the spirit of his cousin Elmore James is noted, since Homesick was sideman and even in some cases lead guitar in the Elmore James's band by the 50's. Also Ron Thompson's guitar sound improves the already great tone of the music and is authentically notable in the Blues "Kissin' in the dark" and "Crutch and Cane" really wonderful. All in all some ¡big BLUES songs! of typical Blues a delight for the listener, the James's way of singing very good sometimes is a little barely comprehensible, I give him 4,5 stars

Superb spare slide from this oldtimer. Very indistinct lyrics, though.
