Olivia's first two Australian albums owed more to pop and folk than they did to country. With this third album, Olivia moves firmly into seventies pop-country territory. Note that the original album releases in Britain and America did not follow the Australian track listings.
The album opens with Take me home country roads. This song had been a huge American pop hit for its writer, John Denver, but did not chart in Britain - I don't even know if it was released there as a single. Olivia's cover became a UK top 20 pop hit, deservedly so. Other covers here include Amoreuse (Kiki Dee), You ain't got the right (Dr Hook) and If we try (Don McLean).
Let me be there, the title track, was a huge American hit. Brotherly love is another fine upbeat song. Most of the other original songs are ballads including Rosewater, which Olivia wrote herself.
This is a lovely album, which might be regarded as essential for Olivia's fans if it weren't for the fact that all the tracks except Brotherly love appear on the British compilation 48 original tracks.

This album is definitely worth buying, even if just for the full version of 'Rosewater,' a song that never made it into the US release and is hard to find, especially in its unedited version. The song did surface in a UK compilation titled "ONJ - 48 Original Tracks," but edited down to under 4 minutes (while the original is over 5). Other tracks from the original 'Let Me Be There' release also surfaced on this compilation. 'Rosewater' also surfaced in some versions of ONJ's Greatest Hits compilation from other countries, but also in it's edited form.

All this said, the rest of the album is wonderfully early ONJ, and sounds very nice remastered. Some great hits have come out of this recording such as 'Take Me Home Country Roads' and 'Let Me be There,' which later could be found in one compilation after another. A couple of songs, such as 'Brotherly Love' show their age. Sadly, other songs were also lost in the US release and eventually, just lost. I find that 'Rosewater' is the greatest loss, which is a tragedy as this is truly a gorgeous song, written by ONJ herself.

So, if you like Olivia's earlier music, you're not going to be disappointed. Not to mention that you're getting an album that is nearly impossible to find. And, as I said before, you get the full version of 'Rosewater,' a song everyone should hear!

Rosewater has always been my favorite ONJ song. It took me years before I realized the song was told from the point of the house named Rosewater. On this CD I found out why. On other CD's it is edited. Here you get the COMPLETE version. Worth every penny of it.

Aside from dozens of other early olivia from some of her albums--as well as rareties that were not, you get every track from the "Let Me Be There" CD, which is Out of Print, on the Olivia boxed set "48 Original Tracks. Check it out here on Amazon!!!
