This cd is one of the most intense cd's i have ever encountered.
The mezmerizing voice and the manao(meaning) behind each song is absolutely awesome. Mark kealii has and always will be, the most awesome chanter whether or not it is modern and traditional all in one. You are and always will be at the top no matter how far out there people may see you.

I thought that maybe this wasn't exactly what I was looking for... but, I was wrong! This is precisely what I needed. I didn't want my dad's Hawaiian music, you know, the 60's stuff and Don Ho. I use it at work to keep me going. I love the beat that is constantly going and it makes me want to dance. Great CD!

I have never bought Hawaiian music before, having very little exposure to it, but when I first heard Mark Keali'i's voice, from the movie "Lilo & Stitch", I had to see if he had an album of his own. When I found this album I bought it not knowing what to expect. What a wonderful album! His voice is amazing and the chanting is captivating. I will be buying his other album too. I also hope to find other artists of this calibur. To discover a whole new culture in music is very exciting.

Call it Healing Hawaiian!!!! Everything about this music is enchanting. I can listen to it over and over and over.
I put it on and before I knew it myself, my daughter and granddaughters were joyfully dancing around the living room.
Great drumming/rhythms, solo chants and group voices(all fabulous!).
Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu is gently 'expanding' traditional music, from my limited perspective,
all I can say, is to me, he embodies, sings and dances in the healing spirit of Hawaiian Hula.
A Chumash healer once told me, his teacher told him he was going to teach him everything he knew. Then he
expected his student to expand it in every possible direction. And of course, when the student was ready to be a
teacher he was expected to give the same expansive directions.
Call it What You Like, it's full of joy and healing!!!

Found this at the library and did not recognize the name but was intrigued. I loved it from the first song to the hidden track. When I got to the 3rd song, my children told me that it was the same singer that sang in Lilo and Stitch. Since then we have played it every day in the car, I work out to it and now I'm buying it because it has to go back to the library. Buy this amazing CD!

If you enjoy Hawaiian music, hula, Merry Monarch Contest you should check this CK out. Ho`omalu's style is not traditional. It's current, new and again, creative. So it's refreshing to hear his interpretations and creations. I admire his bravery.

Once again Kealii has brought a new,fresh feeling and sound to songs that are known and loved in Hawaii. I love his drumming rythmns and the classic style that is all his even when used on old hawaiian standards, you will want to hear it again and again.

Once upon a time there was an island of unmatched beauty inhabited by beautiful people. Others came from far away and took over the islands and their culture. After years of oppression, the beautiful people decided the way of their ancestors had value and they worked to bring back the ways of their people. Mark Keali'i's music bridges the gap between the past and the future of Hawaiian Chant. He brings a sense of melody to Hawaiian Chant that is unlike any other. Some might think MK's style and arrangements aren't historically accurate, but for my haole ears they breathe life and make this music more relateable in the present. There's no good reason why Hawaiian Chant should end up lifeless and frozen in time like Latin. This CD is alive with respect for the past, love of the music and hope for the evolving future of Hawaiian Chant.
