I have over half of this great rockabilly series. Each volume feaures a different record company, and some of the rockabilly that they released back in the genre's day. There are some darn fine songs that haven't seen a mass audience since the 50's, some not at all. Volume four cover a record label called Festival, which operated in New York in the 60's. The high point of the Rockabilly scene was in the late 50's to early 60's, the earliest track on this collection is 1961, as the scene was winding down. The tracks on this disc do rock, but they show obvious influence from Rock that came after Rockabilly, some an almost California 60's rock. A nice point of interest on this disc: The original demo for One Broken Heart for Sale by Otis Blackwell is present. This song would eventually be performed by Elvis in it happened at the Worlds Fair. (Blackwell also wrote Don't Be Cruel). Also there are two numbers by a man named Ronnie Dio. The same Dio who would eventually go on to front Black Sabbath after Ozzie Osbourne left. My biggest let down with this disc though was how light it is. The majority of this series all feature around 30 tracks each. The Festival volume only has 16. If you are someone who is just getting into Rockabilly or just beginning to research the history of the music try another volume (like vol. 1-3 which are all very strong.). This is not really the place to start, but if you are a completist or looking for some Rockabilly outside the norm, try this disc.

William The Wild One was one of the most talked about Rockers of the 60's. I saw him go on stage, in concert with purple hair, purple leather and a Harley of the same bright color. This recording has the popular single "Willie The Wild One," a collectors edition ($100). This album contains the raw roots of all that craziness. I heard Billy Barry, as Willie, became the opening act for The Dave Clark Five, The 4 Seasons and Gerry & The Pacemakers, among others. But, many of the gigs and tours were short-lived because the screaming crowds were difficult to control after he went on stage I read that his career was managed in New York by Sid Bernstein, at the time, who wanted to promote him oversees.. I do know his touring and back-up band were The Renegades (Polaris Records) out of Boston, who played on many of his records. I once caught Billy Barry at Trudy Heller's in New York.. Amazing again, I believe The Rascals were on that show. Famed Record Mogul Herb Abramson produced Billy and many of these cuts. Although, it's worth the collection to just get "Willie The Wild One.". It's real Rock N Roll and Rockabilly..

jesus christ?
whta's this??
are you serious???
that's a dull, lame series by the bear family records
that does definitely not knock me off my feet,
lacks drive & wildness,
too well-behaved & not outrageous enough to captivate my mind,
like you having listened to obscure heavy-psych all along such as ELECTRIC FUNERAL, BARE SOLE,DEATH COMES ALONG,HIGH RISE,
WHITE HEAVEN...
and all of a sudden you're being abducted by unknown tormentors who tie you to a chair,
coercing you into listening to the beatles & rolling stones and similar bunk!
I like rockability raunchy & raw
like that UK series:
Various Artists- Desperate Rock N Roll
and many other compilations doing justice to that genre!
I'm afraid
that this series :That'll Flat Git It Vol.1-27
serves but one purpose:
to be consigned to the litter-bin!!
