Product Description

Editorial Review

WCW/nWo Revenge improves on its predecessor, WCW vs. nWo World Tour, in almost every way. First, the graphics have improved so that the characters are very lifelike and the fights are a bit more realistic. You will also see a huge roster of familiar faces and pay-per-view backdrops such as Starrcade, Superbrawl, and Halloween Havoc. Unfortunately, the sound has not improved, leaving you with just the oohs and ahhs of the crowd plus the WCW Nitro theme. Sorry, no commentary.

The gameplay is very similar to WCW vs. nWo World Tour except that timing has become much more important--you don't just pound the buttons for special moves. There are several game modes, including challenges for all WCW belts (some are available only after you unlock them), battle royal, handicapped matches, and exhibition matches. Furthermore, winning belts will unlock other wrestlers such as Kidman, Rowdy Roddy Piper, and Curt Hennig.

Although there is room for improvement, WCW/nWo fans will enjoy WCW/nWo Revenge. --Hugh Arnold

Pros:

  • Great graphics
  • Diverse roster
  • Better gameplay
Cons:
  • Weak sound

5.0 out of 5 stars Five star dated WCW game, but fun and challenging, August 19, 2001
By Geoffrey Johnson "sitebender" (Lake Villa, IL United States) - See all my reviews
THQ's second American release is a huge leap in graphics from the original "World Tour" Dozens of wrestlers from the NW0, WCW, Raven's Flock, cruiserweights, heavyweights and some of which are made up for the game. The great thing about this game is it was back in WCW's hay-day when it had talented wrestlers, like Jericho, Benoit, Malenko and Raven, more talent means more moves, more moves means more fun. The only real modes other than battle royals, and handicapped matches are a series of championship tournaments to go through in a specific weight / talent class. There are incredible looking arenas even with an isle to brawl in and weapons that you can pull from the crowd and bring into the ring. The unfortunate part about this game is that it is dated, and it moves very slowly compared to Wrestlemania2000 and No Mercy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good game but way too easy, December 20, 1999

The title says it all. The gameplay is great and quite addicting, but it is way too easy to play. Now I only play Battle Royal mode to see if I can knock out all 39 opponents, which I have done on several occasions. Even the world title is a cinch to win. Otherwise, it's real fun, and has great graphics, my only gripe being bleedover when the wrestlers are close together. If you don't have this, I would suggest getting Wrestlemania 2000 instead. Same game, but much more challenging, great entrances/special moves, cage matches, and everything else Revenge does not have! Plus, Revenge is a little dated now. Get Wrestlemania 2K, its as up to date as you can get (although a few wrestlers changed from good to bad recently, and one or two are in WCW now).

4.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the greatest wrestling game of all time, November 20, 1999
By A Customer
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
For an older title, this game is very good. The ring enterances are improved, the play control is very easy to master but still has a lot of surprises, there's a very cool Quest For the Best and Royal Rumble mode, a Spirit meter instead of a life meter, and tons of awesome wrestlers. The costume change mode is more in-depth than World Tour's, too.

There are a few flaws, however. The graphics, although improved over World Tour, are still a bit blocky. The animation's kinda cheesy (although WAY better than the hyperfast or super slow Acclaim WWF games.) And if could have used more game options (all it has is Singles, Tag Team, Handicap, and Royal Rumble.)

Overall, it's a good buy, especially if you have friends playing with you (as a multiplayer it eats Goldeneye's gun tag for lunch.) So far, it's my fave wrestling game, it's definately better than Warzone, Attitude, Nitro, and Mayhem. I'm hoping WWF2000 will top this one, though.
