Brings tears to your eyes

This is the single best 'Lincoln Portrait' I know of. Katherine Hepburn is in her 80s on this recording and you can hear her voice tremble with the tremor she developed in older age, and yet she is such a powerful narrator. Listening to her recite portions of the Gettysburg address with the solo trumpet in the background is one of the most stirring things I've ever listened to. And the orchestra is fantastic too.

It's so odd to me that Copland's own recording with Henry Fonda is so boring. Fonda reads in almost a monotone, without any passion. I'll take Hepburn any day ...

Vintage Americana

This album is a wonderful collection of lesser heard Copland gems. The performances have the excitement one always expects from Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops, and it is ever a special treat to hear Sherrill Milnes. A very enjoyable CD.

Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copland is fantastic.

As Conductor for the Canal Fulton "Music Makers" Community Concert Band I was interested in hearing this presentation and I wanted to share it with my band members. We are performing this for the 150th Anniversary next season. Yes, it takes that long to work up something as difficult as this with a volunteer group. It was delivered perfectly and I could not ask for anything better. Thanks a lot. Best Wishes from Canal Fulton, Ohio.

Patriotic
