Utterly Underrated, January 8, 2005
Perhaps the least popular of Tiffany's albums, NEW INSIDE has obviously received the least acclaim of all the CDs this former teen idol has ever made. Even so, I see nothing wrong with it at all. True, I loved her previous work with her 1987 debut album--which I'll forever remember to be her BEST work--and her 1988 release HOLD AN OLD FRIEND'S HAND, but this CD still holds its own despite her digression from the 1980s California rock that made her a household name to early-1990s dance.
To begin with, NEW INSIDE combines a decent balance of high-energy dance songs with smooth, heart-warming love ballads, which Tiffany has proven to sing with intensity and conviction back in the late-80s. Likewise, despite what some other Tiffany fans (not to mention some jaded music critics) might otherwise suggest, our favorite redhead does sound more mature and sophisticated on this album than before, thanks in part to the music that accompanies her always-melodious voice. One particular song that proves both points is Diane Warren's "Here In My Heart," which I had heard before as performed by the Scorpions and the Berliner Philharmoniker on their 2000 release, MOMENT OF GLORY; indeed, Klaus Meine and Lyn Liechty performed that song well as a duet, but our girl Tiffany could easily compare with her 1990 recording. Of course, the other songs on this album can easily be classified as "ear candy" in their own right, especially the title track and the ballad "Tenderly." Very good stuff!
In short, NEW INSIDE may not have earned Tiffany a well-deserved Grammy, but it still deserves to be remembered in a positive light as an effort on behalf of her continuing efforts to define herself as one of the music industry's most talented, versatile, and--if you'll pardon the bad pun--"noteworthy" players. Way to sing it, Tiff!

I loved it!, December 7, 2004
I do not know why when I read the reviews from this cd, I see so many complaints!! I really liked the songs, and besides, this was one of my favorites CDs 14 years ago. I have been a Tiffany fan since she started her career, and I personally believed that she changed and got mature with this experiment. I definitely reccomend this album.

...but this is the best and most underrated Tiffany album I have heard so far (I have all of them now except for 'Dreams Never Die'-still waiting for my copy of that.) Even though 'New Inside' was a flop, if people had taken the time to really listen to it and give it a chance you can really tell that Tiffany put WAY more of herself into this album then she did into 'Tiffany' or 'Hold An Old Friend's Hand'-after all, in the thank you notes she herself says, "The music on this album is something I have always wanted to do." Listening to her sing on this CD, it really sounds like she enjoyed making it much more than she did her first two. It's such a shame 'New Inside' didn't get the attention or sales it deserved. Also, check out her most recent CD, 'The Color of Silence'-excellent pop/rock album there and as she did with 'New Inside' she put a lot of herself into that album as well.
