Be it rock, pop, jazz, blues, or classical, I frequently find my favorite works of a composer in his or her's lesser known pieces--"B-sides," for lack of a better term. Such is the case here.
I love these sets of shorter works of Beethoven, of which Jeno Jando and Naxos are bringing to us over four cds. I have them all and highly recommend them all. Don't be a snob and assume that because something is not a "sonata" that's been recorded 100 times it's not worth hearing. These are great pieces in terms of composition, musicianship, interpretation, and recording quality. And they're affordable. If you enjoy piano music, get them all. You won't be disappointed.

Jeno Jando the "official" piano performe of Naxos does a great job. The playing is with clear phrases and clean.
Recording is very good.
For such a performed works, Pollini and Kempf do a nicer job.
An interesting purchase, specially at the price

You will find four CDs in the Naxos catalogue in which Jeno Jando plays Beethoven bagatelles. The earliest to be released features the marvellous three sets to which opus numbers were given. This CD is the first of the three others, comprising miscellaneous short piano works of Beethoven. Some bagatelles are here, including the well-known "für Elise" which opens this collection. Once you've heard "für Elise", however, you'll listen in vain for anything here with any spark or substance. Beethoven would probably turn in his Viennese grave if he knew that there was a pianist like Jeno Jando who would devote 57 minutes to playing these inconsequential items to a 21st Century audience. Naxos's regular note-writer, Keith Anderson, provides a scholarly and objective essay.
