Some reason my experiences with calculators have been rather poor. They either stop working or it walks out of my life when I'm not looking. I have not had a single calculator [well, that and grandpas abacus] last as long as this. When it finally quit after 12 years [I ended up face-down in a retention pond with all my gear after being distracted by a pretty girl] I was distraught to see this model discontinued by all the major department stores locally. Didn't think Amazon would stock it, and ordered two when I found out they did. One needed a new battery and some encouragement but so far both are going strong.

Check the batteries for leakage prior to trusting your academic record on one. A lo-batt event during an accounting exam is no fun at all.

8/17/2013 Update: I STILL have this calculator with me, and it continues to work as perfectly as the day I bought it 16 years ago. I'm looking at it right now! Considering I haven't had to change the batteries yet, I'm starting to worry if this thing has nuclear fuel in it. It's going to outlive me at this rate.

I bought this calculator when I started high school in 1997 and now after 11 years and many drops-on-the-ground later, it continues to work perfectly...I haven't even had to change the batteries yet either! This calculator is easy to use, has robust features, and is super dependable. 5 stars!

Sitting at my home workspace today, I looked to my right and smiled, looking fondly upon this calculator. Sitting on the ledge by my side, it has been functioning since the day I unwrapped it in 2000. Mystified by its power source, a chill ran down my spine in wonder of what is actually powering its function.
Do the batteries run out at some time?
Is there a reactor within?
Is the energy storage based on motion?
These are important questions to ask when something so simple is built so well in this modern age. It has gotten me through MANY math classes and exams.

I have had my fx-270W PLUS for 13 years now (also still on the original battery). It got me through earning my BSME from Georgia Tech and took a lot of abuse during school. Now, 7 years out of school, I still use this calculator on a regular basis. I really like how the calculator has a top line to show what you've entered, and that it has the ability to allow you to scroll back through your entry to make individual changes to mistakes. All of the scientific functions are available - trig, exponential, factorial, permutations, combinations, etc. It also has a memory allowing you to store multiple values for recall at a later time. If you are not looking for a graphing calculator but still need something powerful, this is the calculator for you. It has more features than I use!

I've had this calculator for nine years and counting. I have yet to change the batteries in this thing and it's still working perfectly. Love the ease of use!

My aunt gave me this one 19 years ago, battery just died recently. I was wondering anyone knows any new Casio model that has the similar attributes like this one since this model is out of market now. The best thing on this model is that it shows you the actual stored answer value while using for the next calculation.
