Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The MDR-V300 closed supra-aural headphones provide top-end comfort and sound quality. Sony's closed type headphones allow only a limited amount of ambient noise into the ear canal, giving your attention fully to the music. The padded earcups fit comfortably, hour after hour. For those who like to use the headphones for single-sided monitoring, these MDR-V300s come with reversible earcups. The supra-aural design is engineered for excellent listening comfort. With this design, the earcups rest lightly on the ear, while the driver units are positioned along the ear canal for ideal sound transport. The wide, molded headband distributes the headphone's weight evenly. The headphones are foldable for easy storage and portability; when folded, the headphones will easily fit in a backpack or purse. The three meter cord (ten feet) is made of oxygen-free copper wiring for maximum conductivity and minimal noise.

Sony has installed several key features to these headphones to enhance their sound quality. The thirty millimeter drive units delivers a deep bass sound and a wide dynamic range (the frequency range extends down to 18 Hz.) Both the stereo mini-plug and the UniMatch phone plug are gold-plated to make sure sound is transported fully and accurately. The gold-plated treatment also helps resist corrosion and supports the headphones' high conductivity and low noise. The neodymium magnets allow for superb power at a minimum size; these magnets provide more magnetic energy than other inferior magnets. Finally, the PET diaphragm works to deliver low distortion.

Excellent fit, excellent compatibility, excellent portability and excellent sound: these headphones fit the bill for a sound professional.

3.0 out of 5 stars meant for house- not meant for pocket- good for music., May 20, 2000
By ODB (USA) - See all my reviews
Real clean highs, and good clean lows. Deep deep bass doesn't penetrate that loudly with these phones, they still are better than everything else in their price and size range.

Most suited for portable digital music devices. Some of the other "studio" headphones suck up all your portable player's amperage, this one needs less juice to give you louder sound.

I use them with a mp3/fm player, and have found that the mdr's long cord makes for great FM reception, (even when most of its length is folded up somwehere).

These headphones have a weak spot on the headband where two peices of plastic meet. I broke it on one side, duck-taped it fixed, and then broke it on the other side as well, (just for stuffing it in to a jacket pocket). So don't test the plastic. It can't take pressure.

Before you get these ones, look at the Sony MDR-501LP headphones listed in 'similar products'. They look like great sounding headphones...

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as I thought, January 8, 2005
By Scott K. Ibara (Wailuku, HI USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I read the reviews of the MDR-V300 on Amazon.com and other sites and I got exactly what I thought it was. I tend to read the reviews that give 1 or 2 stars to look for the negative aspects of the product and see if it's pretty consistent. Don't get me wrong, the MDR-V300 is a good product and I love it. Because of the other reviews, I didn't expect any more than I should have.
The sound quality is excellent. Typically, I listen to videos and music files on my laptop. Even the cheap walkman type headphones sound better than my laptop's built-in speakers. Although I'm not an audiophile, I don't think I could tell the difference from headphones that cost significantly higher.
The construction is pretty cheap. Other reviewers said that it's not rugged enough if you plan on travelling with them and take it in and out of bags or cases repeatedly. It's true, but if you use them only at home or at the office, then it should be tough enough. I only take it between home and the office, so they don't get much wear-and-tear anyway. Actually, I like it because the phones are very lightweight.
This is exactly what I paid for and I'm happy with the quality, construction, and price.

4.0 out of 5 stars big boom for little money, August 23, 2003
By Mike A. Bamford (Chapel Hill, NC United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
i had been using a pair of sony MDR-V700DJ headphones for a while but only while at home but they are far from portable. well, i went to bestbuy in search of something new that i could carry around with my when walking around campus everyday that were comparable to the MDR-V700's. these headphones were just the ticket.

not only do they sound really great using either my aiwa cd player or arkos mp3 jukebox but they fit right into my small backpack with ease. understand this though, these headphones do not fold up like the MDR-V700's. that is something i wish i would have known before buying them. they simply collapse, meaning the ear pieces fold up and into the headband. the one problem is that they really don't stay that way. sometimes i just wrap a rubber band around them to keep them from harm.

these headphones do have really great sound for being so small and inexpensive. the bass is outstanding and the treble is matched pretty well. luckily my mp3 player has an eQ, otherwise the treble would sound a bit muddy. the headphones block out almost all outside noise, but you do hear just enough to know what's going on and that is surely a good thing walking around campus and crossing streets. i think that is what these headphones are best for . . .travel by foot or sitting in your office. i wouldn't suggest these for use as a club dj ( that's why i had the MDR-V700DJ's in the 1st place. they are untouchable ) nor would i suggest these headphones if you need something really small and portable.

it's give and take when chosing a pair of headphones. give up a little size for a little better sound. well these do a damn good job of balancing out the two. it would have 5 stars if only they folded up like the MDR-V700DJ's do and if the highs were just a little higher.
