Product Description

Jeremy McGrath Supercross 2000 is another in the long line of extreme-sports action games. With the Dave Mirra and Tony Hawk games already well established, is there room for one more in this ever-expanding market?

The game has all the right elements: Jeremy is the 11-time world supercross champion, and the soundtrack is from the punk band the Offspring, but somehow the game just fails in the execution. The game lacks that certain style, that excitement, and instead flounders somewhere between a racing and freestyle-stunt simulator.

The stunt part of the game seems like an add-on, with no real formula. The racing is fun, but it lacks a real direction. The game's control seems like an afterthought; maneuvering is far too severe. Although winning a race can earn you points to unlock new sections of the game, winning those points is unfortunately a different matter.

The game's track editor can drag the fun out a little longer, but it's really more fun to cause havoc and pileups on the first corner than trying to win the championship laid out before you. If Acclaim wants the McGrath brand to continue, they had better pull something out of the hat for the next installment. --Robert Holliday

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay...., January 27, 2001
By Janet "janipoo" (United States) - See all my reviews
This game is okay, Excite bike is more realistic and more enjoyable. The upside to this game is that it is easier to play than excite bike, it does the turns for you (meaning you don't have to push any extra buttons) and it is easier to do the stunts so my 7 year old enjoys it and she also likes customizing her own rider and naming them. If you looking for just one motorcross game to buy go with the excite bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars C'mon Jeremy, give us a game we can love!, April 28, 2000

Jeremy McGrath may be the King of Supercross, but he's got some catching up to do if he wants to be the motocross video game champ. Being an avid motocross rider and fan, I'm a tough critic of motocross games. I want a motocross game to capture a glimpse of the thrill of riding a real dirt bike. In my quest for that rainy-day thrill, I'v bought about every motocross game for every system starting with my old Commodore 64! But on to the modern era... Supercross '98 for playstation was a real disappointment to me. I bought it, and soon went back to playing Motoracer. A few years later, after being mildly disappointed in EA's Supercross 2000, I was hoping Jeremy's new game would capture the excitement of motocross the way I knew a game could. It's better than the original, but hey- that's not saying much. I gave it 4 stars only because I'm a motocross junkie and it's a motocross game. Purely as a game, it's a 3. First off, the graphics look more like pixelated playstation graphics than N64 polygons. If you choose a close-up view, the graphics look better, but you can't see down the track far enough. Acclaim could have done better. It's tough to get the "big air" sensation on this game, even on the stunt course. There's just no amplitude. I was also really frustrated that I couldn't pull a trick and hold it. No matter how long you hold the trick button, the rider goes through quick motions. I will say that the turning is light years better than EA Sports Supercross 2000. The 4 player mode is cool, but it's a bit slow and chunky without an expansion pack. I liked being able to create my own rider with my own number on the bike and jersey. I also liked being able to race the outdoor Nationals, not just Supercross. The track editor is nice if you've got the time to design tracks. It gives the game more replay value. Overall, I'm still waiting for THE motocross game to come out for N64. Something more like Motocross Madness for PC (the real moto-game champ). In the meantime, Jeremy's game will do. It's adequately fun, and it IS a motocross game. But Jeremy, if you're reading this, next year give us a game we can LOVE!

5.0 out of 5 stars AWSOME, July 15, 2001
A Kid's Review
This game is the best. you can build your own rider or your own track. I even think they came up with tony hawks pro skater from this game. if you want an awsome game this is for you. It can even be set from easy to expert which means even youngsters can enjoy. and if you think this game is awsome wait til you play exitebike64 which is even greater with graphics and with gameplay.
