Over the years, I think I've probably used 5-6 types of wood glues--almost everything Elmer's offers, some cheap stuff from my favorite woodworking company, and Franklin types 1, 2, and 3. Titebond 2 is my favorite, but it took me a while to discover this. I used to use only Franklin type 3, which is more waterproof, and probably worth the money if you are doing exterior applications. But Titebond 2 has two important advantages.

First, it sets slower. This is really an advantage, because it gives you the extra time to get all of your pieces together. If you are gluing up several pieces, as in a table top, that extra time comes in handy. If your glue sets up, even a little bit, while you are getting your pieces together, it can keep your joints from being perfectly closed.

Second--and I think that this reason is related to the first--it seems to be slightly more runny. The advantage to this is that when you have a finger joint, it squeezes out more completely when you clamp. To me, it is the ONLY glue for finger joints, where the glue has a long way to navigate to squeeze out.

As noted by other reviewers, it is easily sandable, is reasonably water resistant, and certainly dries fast enough. I always leave my pieces clamped overnight for best results, and I think that the extra time is worth it. Also noted by another reviewer, don't buy a gallon unless you intend on using it in 6-12 months. Once opened, it won't stay good forever.

I have been buying and using this glue for years now and I am here to say that it is an absolutely great performer. Though I have used polyurethane glues and epoxy (I have yet to try the new Titebond III), this Titebond II is the glue I turn to 99% of the time. It has never let me down in any application - I build mainly indoor furniture and jigs.

Once cured, the strength of this glue is consistently stronger than the wood around it. I have had good luck with letting it dry and scraping the squeeze-out away with a sharp chisel and/or a flexible putty knife. After sanding I have had no problems with splotchiness in finishes.

My only concern with buying it in this gallon size is the potential for waste. I made the mistake of buying too much of this glue at once a few years ago and learned the lesson that it will go bad over time. Now I always buy this glue in smaller bottles unless I know it will be used within a year.

I highly recommend this glue!

This glue has all the features that I am looking for in such a simple application, yet very critical to the final product if it fails!! It applies smooth and tacky, giving enough working time to allow for final adjustments. Just enough tackyness to allow for a fit to stick without moving until the clamps can be applied. If too much glue was applied, the water cleanup is important to avoid excess sanding before final staining process. Just a damp cloth will remove the excess glue and will not leave a "glue residue" on the wood surface.
The weatherproof feature allows use of this glue on both indoor and outdoor projects. It is excellent for that bird house, bat house or garden gnome that is exposed to the outdoor elements, but not continuously exposed to water.
The gallon size makes this the most economical buy. The large mouth bottle makes refilling the application glue bottle very simple and easy to do WITHOUT having to use a funnel.
No problems, no issues, just a great sticky product that holds!

Franklin 9106 Titebond Extend Wood Glue - GallonI bought this particular glue chiefly because of it's price. I was pleasantly suprised to find the set-up time was relatively quick and it IS water proof. I read the advertisement about it and thought to myself "oh sure, this cheap and waterproof". Well most of my projects are exterior lawn and garden ornamentals and not a one have I had a problem with. If your looking for an inexpensive alternate to the expensive polyurethanes with apes on the package this is the stuff to buy.

I've used more expensive glues before and stopped. This glue is just as good. There's plenty of working time. And best of all it's sandable. Feel comfortable creating joints without dowel or biscuits with Titebond II.

I build Bee Hives and use Tite Bond II glue on all Rabbet and Box Joints.
It being indirect food grade is perfect for the Honey Bees don't mind it.
I just glue and brad nail the joints and in a hour or so the glue is set and I unclamp the boxes.
I also use it on the Frames that the bees build the wax cone out on.
I glued 2 boards together and let it set over night with clamps on it.
Next morning I removed the clamps and tried to break the glued joint.
The wood split and the joint was still in place.
The nails may rust out but the glue holds.
This is a very good wood glue for outdoor projects that need waterproof glue joints.

I used the original Titebond for a bunch of edge-glued trim. It worked good, but I wanted to have the left over glue usable for exterior applications. I got the Titebond 2, it works great, takes a little longer to cure, but it does dry enough at 70 degrees to take it out of the clamps and finish milling it after 1 hour. I am more comfortable using a water resistant glue for an all-around glue. Cleans up well with a wet rag, sands good, and you can wet sand it (sand the surface while the glue is wet, and the sawdust will make its own wood putty. Works good on seams up to about 1/16", just make sure that you get ALL the residue off the wood surface.)
