Biography

Danzig are a blues-infused American rock band who were formed by Glenn Danzig in 1987. The band released their debut album, Danzig, in 1988. The album went on to be their most successful, going gold in the US in 1994. Sales of the album were helped by popularity of the track "Mother" which was a hit after its inclusion on a subsequent release, the Devilsweatlive EP. The success of "Mother" put… Read more in Amazon's Danzig Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Black Aria, April 8, 2005
By Bjorn Viberg (European Union) - See all my reviews
Danzig himself says that many fans will find it strange that he decided to make this album and writes about this in the book-let. This sounds nothing like the music Danzig has done in the past and he shows that he is more then just a singer for a rock band. The compositions all can be said to be minimalistic and sound like a mix between delerium and instrumental synth music a la vangelis or Jarré. Danzig is not as tallented as these fellows but still has created a nice instrumental album with some nice tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark, simple, appealing to the soul, August 30, 2001
By Cory J Dickens (Klamath Falls, OR United States) - See all my reviews
First off, when this came out, it was my favorite cd to spin when I was, well, when I was doing things my parents and girlfriend's parents were hoping we weren't doing. It's not a rock album, it's like nothing Glenn Dazig has ever done. It's a simple work of dark music. The songs, titled after various parts of the Angel war for Heaven and Lucifer's decent, each carry a weight, a seriousness, with them. Combined with a haunting choir and the howl of a wolf, classical instruments bring Glenn's work alive like nothing ever has before. The only complaint I could muster up, so I sound like I'm trying to suck up too much, is that it is simple. No complex shifts in tone or structure, the songs can bleed and make the disc somewhat hard to listen to if you're driving. That said, it's a great cd if you're out to discover Glenn's other talents, broaden your horizons from gothic metal to something more classical, or just need something to inspire your nightmares. It's a must have.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Little Something Different From Danzig, July 20, 2000
By Curtis R. Martin (Lubbock, TX USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Well, I purchased this CD when it was originally released, and I've enjoyed it from time to time. It's certainly not standard Danzig fare, and it's not bad for what it is. It's rather simplistic and repetitive, though the music is definitely beautiful and haunting. One of the main problems with this album is that it's something like 20 something minutes long. The moment one starts to really get into it, it's over. While it's nowhere near Glenn at his finest, it's definitely worth adding to the collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars an overwhelming amount of underwhelming.
