I expected a lot more from Dewalt. This one fell apart on me in short order even though I wasn't beating on it. The knotted brush is fantastic, though. Buy that instead.

Since this is not the HP version by DeWalt, it is not the top of their product line and the price point reflects that. However, it is very well constructed and installs easily on my grinder without any tools. As with any grinder, wear protective clothing as pulling a few stray strands out of your shins and forearms is not a good feeling. Overall, this product outperforms many bought in big box stores or no-name cheaper options. The quality is apparent from first use and through continued use.

I love this thing. It is sturdy, aggressive, and works perfectly. I purchased an adapter to make it fit my Makita (smaller arbor), and it fits nicely in the 4" opening that normally hosts cutoff blades. One thing, it can be a little hard to control around edges, and safety goggles are an ABSOLUTE MUST!

July 2013 update - I think I would downgrade this to **** at this point. I am finding that although running it at less than the maximum RPM stamped onto the body of the brush, it is constantly throwing off little wires. It sends them everywhere, and they are extremely dangerous. At first I thought it did this only when edges were encountered, but now I'm thinking it throws wires even when just knocking paint or mill scale, for example, off of a flat surface. I still like the product, but I no longer think it's great.

I really do like DeWalt tools and own several of them from drills to a 13" planer. I had been looking for a 4 inch brush, but ended up with this one as a compromise. They also make this in a good variation with wound steel .020" brissles too. The price for this one is one of the best around! However that may be, do NOTE: This 3 inch brush does NOT live up to it's rating at all! Not even close. I like Dewalt tools and supplies generally, but this thing is dangerous folks! A simple face shield is NOT enough protection! I am NOT over stating this, with more info to follow.

My best guess after using two of them (I bought two at the same time.) is that they should NOT be used at anything EVER over about 2500 - 3000 RPM max. Though rated at 14000 RPM, the lower speed large angle grinder and the smaller Bosch mini angle grinder BOTH caused them to shed their wire at a dangerous rate. I had them sticking all over my arms and chest.... through my shirts into my skin..... eventually the first wheel was beginning to look quite thread bare, with only minimal use for stipping some paint off of flat steel, and was not good at all. The second one was even worse.... if that is possible. Both discarded for failure and danger.

Now do NOT confuse this with the twisted wire cup brush (of the heavier .020" inch wire) by Dewalt. So far, that one works well and holds up with zereo wire loss even at the higher speeds of the smaller angle grinder(less than 5000 RPM) I was using it with. Buy that heavy wire Dewalt brush with confidence, but unless you are running this one very slow, do NOT buy this one due the dangers involved. Sorry, wish I give it better, but from my exposure to this one, and the second one being even worse, leads me to alter this review on this date of 16 April 2014 to only 1 star and even that is doubtful at best.... Wires tend to come out easily, not really happy with it.

Get the Dewalt Knotted Cup Brush instead!

Installed on a 4 inch 10k RPM grinder. Cleans well, but I have a bunch of wire stuck in my pants and all over the floor. It is rated at 14k RPM, but I'd only use it on a slower machine. I'm going to try the knotted one next, this one disappoints!

I bought this wire brush to use in conjunction with my DeWALT D28402 4-1/2" Angle Grinder and so far I'm very pleased with the performance of the brush. I would like to have been able to get this with stainless steel bristles, but couldn't find a DeWalt one when I bought my grinder (I needed to buy all Dewalt products to take advantage of a nice promo Amazon was running).

From reading the other reviews, it looks like Dewalt is having the same quality control issues most importers are suffering these days. Some pieces are accidentally high quality and some are standard disposable Chinese junk that Americans have come to accept as the new standard over the last few decades. Obviously I can only review the one brush I have, and so far it's performed quite well.

It fits my grinder perfectly, as I would expect, since it's made for that grinder. It does what a wire wheel or cup is supposed to do... remove surface rust, metal burrs, dirt, paint etc.. I haven't spent hours with this on my grinder yet, but the few jobs I've used it on haven't caused the large loss of bristles others have reported. It's possible they are misusing the brush, but it's just as likely that it's a quality control issue with the manufacturer... all I can say with certainty is that so far I'm happy with what I have.
