I got 4 of these 1 year ago and the Hinges are not holding up. The fake chrome on them starting to peel off. I am happy with quality of the lids but the I got these for the nice looking hinges and now they are really looking poor. I had my previous ones for 10 years with not issue - replaced them finally with these and one year later - I may have to replace these again. Not too impressed!!

The "chrome" started flaking off the hinges almost immediately, and the seat (the *wood* seat) snapped in half on one side after about three months. Seriously. Three months. The stupid thing doesn't even get much actual use -- I live alone (except for a dog, who's way too short and way too stupid to attempt toilet training with), and it's not like all my friends are great big linebackers and great big sumo wrestlers and we have great big parties at my apartment wherein we hang out in the freakin' bathroom and take turns standing on the toilet. COME. ON.

This is what I get for trying to upgrade all my bathroom fixtures, I guess. I won't be buying another one. In fact, I won't be buying anything made of wood with chrome hinges from this manufacturer again. I might not buy anything at /all/ made of wood with chrome hinges ever again. Considering that this is perhaps the most technologically simple piece of equipment in a bathroom aside from a towel bar -- I mean, it's two disks, two hinges and a couple of bolts -- they did a really incredibly amazing job of screwing this up.

Mayfair makes great products... We previously had this toilet seat in our bathroom..as you know anything will break after awhile, but this product life was 6 years!!... I didn't want anything else!! I had to have the model back ... if completes our bathroom with the chrome hinges... very nice product... you can't go wrong!!

I had purchased a seat similar to this in the past and have been very happy with it, so when we needed a new seat for our 2nd bathroom I didn't hesitate to order this one. When the toilet seat arrived it had a very large crack towards the back near the place where it fastens to the toilet. I really wanted to send it back but unfortunately we were expecting guests and had no time to get a replacement. I had read some other reviews that stated they had similar problems but, as I said, I had success with a similar model before, so I took the chance. I can't say I would recommend this item to anyone.

Let me tell you- I'm a huge fan of toilet seats.
Without toilet seats, we'd all be relegated to sitting on porcelain.
This one is solid, easy to install and all that I wanted in a toilet seat. For all of us, it's a concern that the seat will slip out of sync with the cold, hard porcelain base and pinch the soft, delicate pink skin of the derrieres that we want our significant others to appreciate.
Not this seat. It's as secure as the Swiss bank account I used to purchase it.
The shimmering silver hinges are an admirable attempt by the manufacturer to make you forget that the toilet is not a bodily waste receptacle. Sadly, a toilet is just that. A toilet.
But it doesn't mean you can't invest in something where you spend 1/28th of your life.
Be comfortable.
Be secure.
Buy an after market toilet seat.
