An indispensable tool for students from high school onward, in lab classes, and for exams, the FX-260 features a two-line display, complex number calculations, and an algebraic mode, which displays the example precisely as written. Always powered up, it's useful as a household/office calculator for calculating finances, converting cooking measurements, and anything else you can think of when you wish you had a calculator at hand.

The clear, readable two-line display exhibits 10 digits in large numerals, showing the problem and answer together and permitting better tracking of your equations. With the Casio FX-260, you can quickly clear errors with the backspace key. You can also call upon 144 built-in mathematics functions and several fraction functions for basic equations and for fun. Plus, call upon the FX-260's basic scientific, exponential, and trigonometric functions for everything you need to complete your assignments and lab work. Key in and program formulas to save for future uses.

The Casio FX-260 provides one independent and six constant memory keys. It has a pragmatic key layout, making this an easy-to-use basic scientific calculator offering all the functions you'll need in a solidly constructed unit. Also, solar power means never replacing batteries. --Barbara Price

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Casio quality for an excellent price, October 26, 2002
By Gleb A. Chuvpilo (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have been using Casio electronics for over a decade now -- starting with first data bank and touch screen watches. The brand has never failed me, so I have chosen Casio FX-260 over TI and Sharp competitors again. The calculator is great for graduate classes in Computer Science and Finance for sure (this is what I am using it for), and I am certain it will be more than enough for Physics, Chemistry, and other sciences. Compact design, a high-contrast screen, rubber keys -- everything is just right. And if I want to do graphing, I will use Matlab. Highly recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for tests. Lacks accuracy and convenient features, April 19, 2005
FX-260SOLAR is light, slim, and durable. This is also the official calculator for use on GED Math tests and is permitted for use on SAT and PSAT/NMSQT. It is solar-powered meaning you won't be stuck with a dead calculator in the middle of a test. The "mode" menu is printed beneath the screen so that you don't need the user's guide again. (Trust me. This is a BIG plus!) It also handles fraction calculation, converts degrees/minutes/seconds both ways, and computes mean and standard deviation.

However, it lacks the HEX-OCT-BIN conversion and complex number calculation features to make it an all-around technical calculator. Users also need to press SHIFT to use the "1/x" and "nCr" functions. In comparison, Casio FX-300MS offers a much more convenient layout and costs only $1 more with the sale going on now (April 2005).

On the numerical side, this model does not store enough digits to be a good financial calculator. For example, this model evaluates 200000 (1 + 0.06/360)^(360*30) to about 1209747.95. A more accurate answer should be about 1209748.04. TI got it; Casio did't. Although the difference is so small that it often doesn't matter in highschool problems, it looks bad on presentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great priced scientific calculator, August 12, 2000
By Andrew Brown (Wapakoneta, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews
I recently bought one of these scientific calculators. This calculator is not only compact but it is also inexpensive. And since it is solar powered I never have to worry about the batteries running down if I leave it on. This is a great calculator to buy if you don't want to spend a lot but want to get a lot from it.
