Christmas! The mere word inspires shrieks and wiggles in the 1- to 6-year-old crowd. Treat the kiddies to a tuneful outlet for their holiday excitement with this festive, 45-minute video from Australia's award-winning children's group, the Wiggles. Main vocalist Greg Page (in yellow) teams up with cohorts Murray Cook (guitar), Anthony Field (guitar and trumpet), and Jeff Fatt (accordion and keyboard) to deliver over a dozen delightful Christmas favorites--some old, many new, and almost all with a boppin' beat. What makes this holiday sing-along superior to other, similar tapes is the genuine joy the performers emit while they dance, play, and smile throughout each one- to two-minute tune. Simple yet eye-catching sets for songs including "Felice Navidad" and "Jingle Bells" never upstage the foursome and their boyish glee. Many performances include equally wiggly children, dressed as elves or reindeer, who appear every bit as genuine as Greg, Murray, Anthony, and Jeff. In a favorite segment, Anthony introduces and chats with some of the kids before they perform a musical nativity play. The final few minutes features a live performance of the "Wiggly Christmas Medley" from The Wiggles Big Show. This video lives up to Wiggle Time in entertainment value. My kids (5 and 3) relate to each of the Wiggles as well as Captain Feathersword, Wags and Dorothy. We bought the video last weekend and since then the kids have memorized the dialogue and choreography. This is a terrific video choice for Christmas fun because your kids won't just sit and watch. They'll get up and dance and sing along. There are traditional songs plus some new high energy ones. I just asked my three year old which song was his favorite and he said, "Let's Clap Hands for Santa Claus," a Wiggles original. At the end of the video there is a montage of Christmas songs excerpted from one of the Wiggles concerts. This is an added bonus to an already fabulous tape.

The Wiggles: Wiggly, Wiggly Christmas is another winner from a great group. My 2 1/2 year old granddaughter loved it. It contains a mixture of old favorites and new Christmas songs. They include characters from the other videos, Dorothy the Dinosaur, Captain Feathersword, Wags the Dogs, and Henry the Octopus. Some children from snowy climates may wonder why they go on a picnic on the beach for Christmas, but it will be good for southern climate children. (Remember Australia-home of the Wiggles has Christmas during their summer months) I'd buy it again!

We bought both this video and "Yule Be Wiggling" this week so we had a Wiggly competition between the two. "Wiggly Wiggly Christmas" wins at our house hands down. The title song would make anyone want to get up off the sofa and dance--mom included--and Santa is hilarious making wiggily motions with the guys and kids and jumping around like a maniac. Another song with a catchy beat is Henry the Octopus's. The nativity scenes and "quieter" Christmas songs are sweet and not too long (my 2-year old definitely liked the jumpy songs best!). It is a relief to have *some* Christmas religious references in a fun children's video without having to tolerate a syrupy 40 minute sermon.

My seven year old also enjoyed this video the most out of the two (she said the computer animation for the Elf song on "Yule Be Wiggling" was a little creepy). We have 9 of the Wiggles videos now, and "Wiggly...Christmas" is easily one of the top 3. We also saw their show in Indy in August and that was a real treat with reasonable ticket prices.
