Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

When a monster storm hits the open sea, even the toughest ship is at risk. Watch as some truly spectacular retrievals unfold in The Perfect Storm: Rescues, including some from the 1991 event of the same name. With some waves reaching hundreds of feet, luck can be just as important as skill and determination; though there are interviews with rescuers and rescuees, the footage speaks for itself. These well-timed missions are starkly beautiful ballets and demand just as much from their participants as any of the more glamorous work such as firefighting. An additional tape covers the training of U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers, an elite team who go into desperately risky, life-threatening situations to bail out stranded or submerged boaters. Fast-paced, breathtakingly exciting, The Perfect Storm: Rescues beats Hollywood's best action flicks. --Rob Lightner

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Exciting True Stories. A Great Value!, July 4, 2000
We enjoyed the movie but this was even better. Meeting the real people behind actual rescues was interesting and I learned alot about boating and how the Coast Guard finds people in trouble. Don't miss it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Documentary is only 40 minutes long., April 27, 2002
By A Customer
The Perfect Storm rescues has two parts.
The main part is a disappointing 40 minutes long documentary of six sea rescues off ships and boats.
It does have some spectacular footage of a ship turning on it's side and sinking as well as a rescue from an ice filled sea.
The second part is a 52 minute long documentary about how the recuers are trained to do the job. This may be interesting for some people, but this is not what was advertised.
I was expecting all sorts of rescues(from floods etc),but it only covers rescues at sea and then only a few.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hooray for the USCG, if not this video
This video actually contains two fairly short programs. The first looks at a series of rescues at sea using actual footage. Read more
