Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The IBM Microdrive is a miniaturized hard disk drive about the size of a quarter. The Microdrive fits into the CompactFlash Type II slots on devices that require flash memory storage. Generally used in digital cameras, the Microdrive can also be used in other devices that require a large amount of storage. Two caveats about this storage panacea: First, it requires slightly more power than a normal CompactFlash card, so it's not compatible with all devices that have a CompactFlash Type II slot--check your device's owner's manual to be sure. Second, it is a miniaturized spinning hard disk, so it's more fragile than solid-state memory cards. It can be damaged if it is dropped, and it shouldn't be used at extreme elevations or temperatures.

5.0 out of 5 stars one great handy dandy way to store digital pictures, November 15, 2000
By Tofiq Sajawal (Santa Monica, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I bought this microdrive with Canon Powershot G1 digital camera. Until I bought this drive, i had problem storing one trip images(100-125 images, one image app. 2MByte at high resolution). If you want a good solution for the problem of not been able to store multiple high quality images while on trip, microdrive is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only solution for high resoloution digital storage, January 16, 2001
By "aquineas" (Atherton, CA United States) - See all my reviews
From the beginning, my major fear was that the microdrive would use so much battery power that it wouldn't be worth the space it offered. While battery life is dependent on the digital camera/battery you have, my experiences have shown this drive to take little more power than a regular static memory card. With many cameras offerring upper resoloutions of 2048 x 1536 or over, image sizes can range to as large as 1.5 megs a pic. While a 256 meg static memory card would be nice, it is prohibitively expensive when compared to this drive. I have had nothing but good experiences with it, and would reccomend it to anyone with a compact flash using camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only problem will be sorting out your photos...., March 9, 2001
By "mom2socialworker" (San Bruno, CA United States) - See all my reviews
Shortly after getting the Cannon PowerShot S20 as a xmas gift, hubby forked out the cashe for the micro drive. Went from being able to store 16 photos to 379. Yes 379. I love the flexibility this offers and I have found I take so many more pictures. It is a bear to sort them out. I'll turn around and have 100+ photos in the camera. Highly recommend the splurge. Makes digital photography what it should be.
