Product Description

Editorial Review

Babies learning to master their physical world love toys that react to their touch. Loaded with entertaining sounds and lights, this musical toy offers lots of stimulating tactile and auditory pleasures. Shaped like an orb, the toy consists of a flat plastic star with three beaded plastic loops extending over each end. Each time baby shakes the toy, beads rattle, lights flash brightly, and the music begins. There are five songs in all--three classical and two nursery rhymes. Though the product literature extols the virtues of exposing babies to classical music, these tunes sound pretty much like those found in a traditional nursery toy. As long as the toy is in motion, the music keeps playing, but when set down, it stops. Parents will love the inclusion of a volume control switch and an on/off button. Weighing in at almost 2 pounds, most babies under 10 months may not be able to easily pick up this toy, but they should still be able to enjoy pushing and rolling it. Requires three AA batteries. --Marianne Painter

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised, November 19, 2001

I purchased this toy when my son was six months old. I didn't open it for two months as he really didn't sit up until eight months old. Now I wish I hadn't waited. He prefers to play with the toy while crawling around on his belly. I keep it on his play rug. He has quickly learned to turn the toy over to turn on the music and lights (no need to shake it). He will also flip the stars around, but not necessarily move them from one end to the other (I think he needs to sit up and play to do that). It must be one of my son's favorites, because he'll play with it for a few minutes, go to something else, but will always return to it before going to a third toy.

I have an 11 month old that plays with this toy. My only concern with this toy is he gets his leg caught inbetween the colorful plastic that holds the beads on. He has done this several times, and each time it is difficult to get the toy off his leg without causing him alarm.

When my 7mth. old first saw this, he seemed very interested. After that, he isn't thrilled by it. This toy may become interesting, it has potential......w/the twinkling lites, classical music and coaster beads. It is very durable, my lil' guy has thrown it a couple of times, no breaks! I think maybe a younger infant...3mths would be really taken by the music/lites. But at 7mths, they're crawling, and its very hard to sit still!
