Product Description

Editorial Review

Sore, cracked, or bleeding nipples are often a painful problem for breastfeeding mothers. Medela Breast Shells are designed to be worn inside a bra to help heal tender nipples while preventing further irritation. Used to treat sore, flat, and inverted nipples or engorgement, Breast Shells consist of two hard plastic domes with vented fronts, and two plastic cones that snap together to form a shell. Placed inside a bra and centered over a nipple, the shell forms a physical barrier, thereby promoting air circulation and keeping wet clothing off tender nipples. Shells may also be worn prior to birth to promote nipple stimulation and treat flat or inverted nipples. These hard plastic shells are boilable and dishwasher safe and may be worn under nursing pads. Although probably not something most moms would feel comfortable wearing in public (unless you like the Madonna pointy breast look), these large plastic shells really do work to keep clothing and wet nursing pads off tender nipples. --Deb Oroszlan

Product Description

When the discomforts of breastfeeding surface, Breastshells from Little Hearts can help. Breastshells are worn inside your bra to help treat sore and tender nipples, engorgement, and even aiding in drawing out flat or inverted nipples. Breastshells are made of dishwasher-safe plastic and no one will know you're wearing them but you. Like all Little Hearts products, they were made with mothers in mind.

4.0 out of 5 stars Get in the beginning or don't get at all!, September 18, 2001
By A Customer
The breast shells would have been great if I had them in the very, very beginnning when my nipples were adjusting to the continual abusive of being the milk machine. The problem that I found with them for continual use was that they do protect the nipple, but they also allow milk to drip out. No place for it to go! Get them before you arrive home from the hospital!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic Shells!, September 7, 2001
By A Customer
Obviously these don't work for some people but for me these shells are the only reason I'm still breastfeeding! I love them! They are a little awkward at first but so worth it. My nipples were so sore that I almost stopped breastfeeding. They wouldn't heal because the wet nursing pad kept the moisture on them and irritated them further. Now I love nursing and the only time I don't wear the shells are in the shower! Yes they make me have pointy breasts but I still think it's worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A litle uncomfy but worth it!, June 12, 2001
By A Customer
If an LC or dr or anyone recommends to you to use shells, then do so! They are awkward at first but well worth using, so that you can gain a rewarding breastfeeding experience. Not a lot of money to ensure you and your baby have the relationship that is so vital! Definitely worth trying!
