Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Lost, stupid, and really, really scared, Stressy turns the camera on herself and whimpers, "I don't know where this snot is coming from because I don't have a nose." Well no, she doesn't, because she's the star of Steve Oedekerk's surreal all-thumbs parody of The Blair Witch Project. Three camera-wielding digits get lost in the forest, fight off a shark attack in their tent ("It could have been an owl," Stressy hopefully offers), and relentlessly film every moment of their blind panic. This bizarre spoof has it all over the recent rash of parodies: it's shorter (under half an hour) and sillier, and it stars Jaws, Frankenstein's monster, and a handful of talking thumbs with squished-together eyes, run-amok eyebrows, and overactive mouths spewing nonstop nonsense. And it's pretty darn funny to boot.

The spoofing continues through the special supplements, with a mock "making of" featurette (where the thumbs blab on about coffee, motivation, and irritating butt rashes), outtakes and deleted scenes, and a thoroughly nonsensical, incomprehensible Insane commentary track to accompany the Sane (but only slightly more informative) commentary track. --Sean Axmaker

Product Description

Created by the writer of "The Nutty Professor," "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" and "Patch Adams," this second installment in the Thumbation series is a clever tale about three thumbs who travel into the woods to make a documentary about a local urban legend. One year later, the thumbs' video equipment is found, the footage compiled and made into a chilling movie about the terror the students encountered during their search for the truth behind The Blair Thumb.

4.0 out of 5 stars For ThumbFANatic, January 25, 2002
By R. Pfeiffer (Fort Leonard Wood, MO) - See all my reviews

We waited a long time for this. My wife and I absoluelty love Thumb Wars, so we were anxiously awaiting the release of the Blair Thumb. Some truly hilaroius moments and scenes, but not quite as funny as Thumb Wars. Still, we are dedicated ThumbFans, and will watch it again and again, maybe it will grow on us...like mold (that's good for you right? penicillan and all.) On another note, I can't wait for Thumbtanic to come out.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Bland Thumb, August 14, 2002
By Kent (USA) - See all my reviews
Of the four thumb movies currently released (Thumb Wars, Thumbtanic, Bat Thumb, and Blair Thumb), this is my least favorite. Recall that "thumbation" is compromised of a cast of dressed-up thumbs with super-imposed faces. No matter where you are, any dressed-up thumb with a super-imposed face is a hoot. So the Blair Thumb spoofs the Blair Witch, obviously. While it does a good job spoofing, it doesn't do the same justice entertaining. Yes, there were moments where I laughed aloud. But most of the time I was only thinking to myself, "Okay, okay... let's get to the next joke already. And make it a funny one this time." I wasn't left with much to quote, either. Unless you like saying "Ah, spit!" a lot, you won't find anything worth spouting out spontaneously to your friends. I really enjoyed the other thumb movies, but this one didn't mean much to me. Don't waste your time unless you absolutely MUST have the whole collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh my goodness, December 30, 2006
By C. Davis (Austin, TX USA) - See all my reviews

Oh yes. This is such a fantastic parody. Ok, look, i haven't even ever seen the Blair Witch Project. It was still outrageously funny. You can even watch this with kids and they will find it hilarious. My whole neighborhood quotes it constantly. Do yourself a favour and plug it in. If you don't have a diverse or even ridiculous sense of humour, if you're one of those purists that is afraid to laugh, then don't bother. But Steve Oedekerk is a master.
