Amazon.com Product Description The KX-TGA270S from Panasonic is an add-on extension handset designed for use with KX-TG2700S, KX-TG2720S, KX-TG2730S, or KX-TG2740S Expandable Cordless Systems. By utilizing the 2.4 GHz frequency band, as well as Frequency Hopping Digital Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology, the KX-TGA270S provides crisp, clear reception even at significant distance from the base.

An illuminated keypad makes dialing easy in the dark, while a headset jack gives you the option of hands-free operation. Four-way conferencing allows you to talk with multiple people, while a two-way intercom lets you communicate with family and friends near the other phone.

With call waiting, you won't miss any important calls, while Caller ID (with subscription to telephone company services) means you can avoid those calls you would rather miss. A great way to expand your current Panasonic phone system, the KX-TG2700S also features six selectable ring tones as well as a handset volume control. Panasonic also provides a one-year parts and labor warranty.

You can use multiple handsets without worry of cross-talk or eavesdropping because the FHSS technology randomly changes frequencies several times per second. This Handset features Privacy Mode. You can block all other handsets from joining in on the conversation. This feature automatically shuts off when the call is completed. 4-Way Conferencing allows for conference in one outside line on up to 4 handsets simultaneously with the MultiTalk Expandable System. You can quickly and easily conference in on an existing conversation between another handset and an outside line. From the base unit or a handset, you can call any other extension in the system. From the base unit or a handset, you can call any other extension in the system. 4-Line Backlit LCD on Handset shows Call Status, Programming Options, Directory Items, and if you subscribe, up to 3 lines of Caller ID information, so there's no need for scrolling. Backlighting greatly aids visibility especially in low light areas. The battery life is very poor in these phones after you have had them for a few months. To fix the problem, get Energizer ER-P511 batteries. These are Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries that are designed to replace the low-quality batteries that come with these phones.

After installing these batteries, we have seen battery life improve greatly.

We experienced the same problems everybody else is reporting about the short battery life. But it turns out that if you clean the contacts on the battery, the springs, and on the bottom of the phone with alcohol, and insert some cardboard between the non-contact end of the battery and the wall of the battery compartment (thereby pushing the battery into the springs with more force), the battery problems go away. So, it's not the battery, charger, or power-management software--it's just a mechanical problem.

With that problem fixed, this is an excellent phone system.

(By the way, we're told that Uniden phones have excellent battery life.)

I can't share enough of the positive things about this phone system. My husband and I are so pleased with it. Our favorite feature is the intercom system, which has been a lung-saver in our house --allowing us to just call each other rather than roam around the house and holler.

I find other comments about battery life unfounded, and wonder if these individuals had the phone on "booster" -- which, if you read the manual, will improve your signal but drain the battery quickly. I have yet to experience the need to put the phone on booster (and we live in a rural area), and have not had a battery run dead while talking. I usually recharge the phones every 2-3 days.

I also like the fact that the handset comes with a speaker phone. A great feature when trying to manage the kids, dinner and talk.

The ringer selections are great too -- providing a wide variety. (Finally a phone that doesn't jolt you out of a deep sleep!)

Program your phone numbers in one phone and press just a couple buttons to transfer that directory to another. No more searching for the address book!

Reception has been flawless. Operation and programing easy, easy, easy. This one is a must buy!
